General winterizing

I'll be putting my boat away for the first time & just wondered if there's something I should be doing I'm unaware of.

It's just a 14' Jon boat with a 9.9/15 Johnson. My plan was just to run some Stabile through it on my last trip for the year & take it inside for winter.

Questions:

Do I need to do anything different with the carb/fuel than described above?
Do I need to do anything with the lower 1/2 of the motor? Drain fluid, ect.
Is there something I'm totally not thinking of?

Just want to avoid a stupid mistake and lost time one the water next spring.

Also, if anyone wants to elaborate on other tips/techniques for winterization of bigger boats, feel free. The time is upon us.

Thanks in advance.

Pork, now is the time to change your lower unit lube. If there's any water in it the possibility exists for a freeze crack, as well as corrosion. I always change the impeller on my kicker as well. The stabil is probably all you need to do if your motor is a 2 stroke. 4 stroke should change the oil and fog the carb. The nice part about the outboard is that once they're out of the water, and allowed to hang straight down, the water is pretty much drained from the system.

Sounds like a good plan of attack.

    Thanks Bulldog.

May want to run out the gas in the lines and in the carb.   Pull the the hose off the tank and let run untill the motor stops.

Everything said above is good advice...I also pull the props off my main and kicker and make sure there is no foriegn material i.e. fishing line wrapped around prop shaft, also take a look at seal while prop is off...May also want to pull plugs and fog cylinders and turn it over a couple of times then put old/new plugs in....
