22-250 most virsable caliber. you can get you lower grains for varmits and your higher grains for deer. thats my next rifle

    270 or 30-06
You can buy shells anywhere and they are cheep to shoot.
Lower grain bullets will kick less

The Winchester 94 30-30 has probably killed the most deer.
Again-you can buy shells anywhere and they are cheep to shoot with little recoil

7-08 one of the best white-tail calibers out there. you can not go wrong with one of them

I think there are some ammo manufacturerers that make low recoil loads in different calibers...

243 if she is of a small build. My grand daughter has killed 4 buck and 4 doe with my 222 and had no problems but you have to wait for the perfect shot. I would go with the largest caliber she can handle without flinching.

i bought my daughter a tikka T3 in 243. she shots it well and has taken deer with it. i was considering the 7-08 too. either would be great. also there is a lto to be said for the reduced recoil rounds. my niece hunts with a 3006 with reduced recoil rounds and has shot several deer.

If you only want your daughter to go hunting once. Then most definitely get her a 30 06 or other large caliber rifle. If you want her to go and enjoy herself and want to go with you again. Then get her a gun that fits her. Remember that when you are looking at guns now that she most likely won't have her heavy winter hunting clothes on (she needs to be wearing her hunting clothes when checking the fit of the gun). I try to take at least one young hunter with me every year. I bought a 30 30 for them to use. Youngsters are small they need a small gun.

My daughter has hunted with a .257 roberts for the past 5 years. She loves it. Can shoot a 20 grain heavier bullet than the .243 and is a great deer gun. Also works good on yotes & hole pigs.

great point gary. I'm mentoring my grandson this year and he's shooting my Thompson Omega, with 2 pellets. He's 11 and this is all the recoil he needs to feel right now. It will be a few more years before he gets behind my 06 or browning slug gun. I picked him up a beautiful older belgium made browning 20 guage O/U that he loves.  Give a kid a gun that kicks their butts and the only hunting they'll be doing is on their X box.

22-250 no way I would recommend for a kid. Shot placement is very important with this load.
.243 is a great gun for a kid and could use it forever. My 8 year old has a single shot 243 and she shoots well with it. JMO

.257 roberts shoots a heavier bullet than the 243 with the same recoil, better deer gun in my opinion

.243.... can't go wrong. have .270's, 30-06's, 22-250's, 6mm.... but only ever use .243 for deer. perfect gun, light, shoots straight, shots long, and doesn't kick your @$$. rarely do the deer get away
