put some backing on your reel (20-30lb)
then use siglon F as your mainline (6-8lb), it's what i use, some other guys use different
buy yourself some barrel swivels (size 16)
use the swivel to connect your mainline to your leader
buy some 3x fluoro tippet for your leader (what i usually use)
then get hooks, shot, floats (3-6 gram), etc. and you're ready to roll

Try a 7wt with a 7/8 large arbor reel...Grab a set of testes and start fishing. (: Sorry, could resist...good luck with your new endeavor.(puff, puff) I can see myself standing on the Cat someday with a pin in my hand. (exhale)

I'll break you fly flinger in half
Actually, you should let me swing a few flys with your setup if we are in NY
the same time...or when we are in Erie. I will even let you use my pin
so I can get a picture of that. teehehehehe!!!

As for the original poster one here, there are a lot of good websites on the internet.
Check them out..and especially some informational casting videos on YouTube.

Patience is a virtue when learning.

Loomis... is it the fear of this footage that brings you into the forum everytime there is a new post??

.... or do you just like pinning that much?

You know, one so you can think on your own and realize that pins in PA is just overkill. Realize that pins are made for big water and that is something that is not offered in the Erie tribs. So having a pin and using it on Erie tribs is just stupid.
You can use it to go out and get a 2 handed fly rod. With that rod you will need a reel, backing, running and lets go with a short head skagit line. One more thing you will need is a chunk of t 10 or t14 that up to you. you can create beautiful flies to have the steelhead chase down. Unlike forcing them to eat by banging sacs and jigs into their heads. Now that you have the gear you will need some out of state licenses. Lets go with NY and OH. There you will find water that is lush and beautiful.
While working your way down scenic run your newly acquired brain will work in ways like, boy am I happy I didnt get a pin.

    Good luck in your adventure.

What you are going to want to get first is a brain. You know, one so you can think on your own and realize that pins in PA is just overkill. Realize that pins are made for big water and that is something that is not offered in the Erie tribs. So having a pin and using it on Erie tribs is just stupid.
Once you get that brain you can now use it for some good. You can use it to go out and get a 2 handed fly rod. With that rod you will need a reel, backing, running and lets go with a short head skagit line. One more thing you will need is a chunk of t 10 or t14 that up to you. Now that you have the gear you will need some out of state licenses. Lets go with NY and OH. There you will find water that is lush and beautiful.
Now that you are ready to go, go out and enjoy yourself and that brain of yours. While working your way down scenic run your newly acquired brain will work in ways like, boy am I happy I didnt get a pin, and also look at all those stupid guys without brains.

    Good luck in your adventure.

Please tell me how you came to the conclusion that centerpins are only for big water. Take any person who knows how to correctly use a centerpin and they will show you how to fish any body of water with it.

If it were fact that, "pins in PA are overkill" and "Pins are made for big water", then I guess that means there are no big streams, rivers, or lakes in PA. The Ohio, and the Allegheny, for example, are not big I guess.

"Pins" were not invented for those pelletheads to begin with. Someone long ago just figured they are productive for all fish, steelhead being one of them. I will agree with you that a centerpin on erie's tribs isn't a good idea during most of steelhead season, but not because of the size of the water.

You obviously do not know much about centerpins aside from how they work. So to keep from looking like a complete moron, comment on things you do know about.

Believe me there are plenty of people that use centerpins for other fish besides steelhead and that rarely use bait.

You said "Lets go with NY and OH" take a fly rod there hmmm. Let me think about that pins are useless in the small erie tribs, but go to Ohio and New York and your brain will say glad I didnt buy that pin. Ever fish the Grand its a lot more fun with the pin. Also you tell him to get a two handed fly rod why not just buy a pin your **** near there. I thought you elitest fly guys only needed to hold your rod with one hand. Is your arm not strong enough to cast across big water. Oh by the way thankyou for chimming in on the centerpin part of the forum.

Mellow, pinner,it's all good, gonna take Mr.Twister out and let him play with the vetern pin reel, you know the one with the fish magnet built into it.Had the fly guys crying on the Yough saturday with the pin,had to show a few of them you can float flies way more productivly with a pin, than using a styrofoam float on a fly rod.
