PM, a few skams, and whatever else

Headed to Michigan and Indiana for a trip.  A few pics.

Pere Marquette River - Beautiful river.  First time I was ever there.  This is the first water to get steelhead stocked in the great lakes...   sometime in the late 1800's, I believe.    It does not get stocked anymore... all fish are wild or strays.    There were a few early kings around..   certainly a river to go back to.   I'd love to fish it in March during the manistee run.

Dime bright skamania.   If you like elusive fish, these are the ones to go after.

As always, we dealt with muddy water in southwest michigan and northern indiana.   It's the nature of the time of year.   Makes for tough fishing.  Flyfishing wasn't at its greatest ... plugging, spinners, and float fishing were the necessary tool.

Anyway, won't be long for Erie water to be flowing good.  Best of.

Rainbow rapids a mile or two below.  Every stretch had good holding water.  Green cottage in the fly water.  Taylor road at Maple leaf.   Checked out Walhalla bridge.. a bit deep and straight there.  Stayed right on the Baldwin River.. reminded me of Indiana's Trail Creek... but a little (ALOT) cleaner.

    I'm totally jealous right now.

In the skam picture, are you the big guy, or the one who looks high as a kite?

I look high as a kite. We visited the little and big manistee, bear creek, muskgeon, pine river too. No pics though... didn't fish them.

Nice pics.  Did you get to do any night time mousing?  Supposedly that is the way to get the hog brown trout on the PM.

A group of us have been going to the PM for the last 6 years every October.  They have a decent salmon run, and plenty of big trout gobbling up the eggs.  The PM is really a great fishery, wild browns, cohos, kings, and steelhead.  You can even catch pike and bass down in the lower river.  One of these years I want to make it out for the Hex hatch.  It's supposed to be a very big event, much like the green drake hatch on Penns.

That is particularly funny A, because we were making fun of Jay in the pic with the brown.    Once I sent him the pics, he commented on the John looking **** in the background.  funny.
