MORE IDIOCY FROM ALBANY

NY regulators to ban shad fishing Comments 0 | Recommend 0

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- New York state regulators plan to ban commercial and recreational fishing for American shad, saying the population remains at historic lows despite efforts to restore it by restricting fishing. The state Department of Environmental Conservation will hold three public meetings in September to explain the move and the steps to be taken to save the species. Shad, like salmon, hatch in rivers, spend their adult lives at sea, and return to their inland birthplaces to spawn. In 2007, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission conducted a coast-wide assessment of American shad and concluded that the Hudson River shad stock has declined dramatically since the 1990s due to overfishing, habitat loss, and other factors. The DEC announced the plan Tuesday.

The empty suits in Albany can't stay out of our pockets or our lives.  After allowing commercial interests to****the shad population for decades, now they're going to punish recreational fishermen.  What a bunch of dumbasses we have in authority in this state.

I don't know how they could enforce recreational fishing but it will put a hurting on the commercial fishers.. Maybe a good thing for the rec. angler, remember the stripers ..it worked in one Blue Gills favor.

Yeah RJ-  I have NO problem with keeping the commercial fisherman out of the river or bay or where ever they are pounding these fish, but it seems stupid to ban a species from recreational fishing, when 95% of anglers throw them back anyway.  I guess they'll have to ban shad darts also, and make Conroy and them turn in all of his darts to the state, as they could be used to facilitate a crime.
What irks me is the "punish the whole class" policy for the sins of one- COMMERICAL FISHING. I hated that about Sr. Margaret Francis also.

Sr. Margaret Francis?  I think she whacked my knuckels with a yard stick in third grade.  Made there was two of her.

Just another example of how government control means we pay for their poor****planning everytime.

A lure drawing the first strike of an early morning, the strong tug on the end of your line, the excitement of a leaping fish... that,s livin large!

I don't konw.. I think you may be over reading this thing
To me it sounds good A+ to slow down over harvest commercial fishing. As with the stripers.. the same thing happened in the mid-late 80's and the stripers and we rec. fishermen reaped ..
Downside, those who rely on commercial fishing will take the heat.. No way would a ECON be able to regulate what type of species a rec fishermen is targeting on the Hudson river.
Smart move and I give props to regulation on this one.

LMAO JIMMY  THATS NOT FAR FROM HER

KAY-Z   I had her for 7th grade English at Sacred Heart in Troy.  I'd rather run over a Harley in front of the Hells Angels clubhouse than run into her again. Scary broad!
