fishermans paradise

I was reading my Trout Streams of PA book by dwight landis, trying to get some info on the paradise section of spring creek and it says in here that you arent allowed to wade...is that true?

and is there anything else i should know before i go?

Yes that is correct, there is no wading in the actual paradise section.  Most of the paradise is mowed with not too many casting obstructions behind you, so you really don't need to wade.  In the sections above and below you are legal to wade all you want.

You should know it is probably the busiest stretch on SC and the fish can be very fickle in paradise compared to the rest of the creek.

    matt,
They ain't fickle, they're conditioned.  Instead of topssing small stuff, try throwing a big pale green fly, or a big black stone.  Tell me how you do.

For more hookups, through off- white sucker spawn near the bridge to the hatchery. As is the case with the fish in the run at BOILING SPRINGS as well, they quickly adapt to a steady diet of bread provided by the tourists....rather eat those than the pesky bugs anyway. I heard they're bitter. Bread fly gets em every time. Good luck catching them on much else if there's a "bread hatch" coming off. Not really what you'd call wild fish under those circumstances, sorry to disappoint, but if you insist on using natural presentations, the tinier the better...and much luck to you.

No wading, flyfishing only, barbless hooks, C & R. Another go to when they wont bite is a red san juan worm, especially after a rain

I've done well with tiny griffiths Gnats and tiny midges........ants work wonders on that stream this time of year....especially in the Benner Springs area......olive/black buggers--big ones will also work......tan scuds, grey scuds, small beadhead pheasant tail nymphs.....

Everything listed above works too..........from the San Juan Worm to the bread hatch........and I'll add one of the greatest fish catchers of all time  --  the Glo-BUg ( cheese curl orange color hahaah )

Don't be afraid to venture away from the non-wading area......there are trout everywhere in that stream....take a walk upstream of the PFBC Stackhouse school........plenty of nice water........and some big fish........even some honker carp........and the riffles upstream of the first concrete bridge is usually loaded with fish.........

If you get tired of refusals from trout, and fish scattering when you take a hard step on the bank, try the carp.  Then you'll really get frustrated.  BIG carp in there, but spooky as can be.

I fish for the carp everytime I go there. Results: carp 150, myself 1. That was about the best fight on my 5 wt ever! About the time i hooked it, a tour bus pulls up and the entire Orvis catalog got out to fish. Some guy came running over to see the big fish I had on, and was disgusted when he saw it was a carp. Oh well, it fought better than all the trout I caught that day. (Nothing against Orvis by the way. I fish an Orvis rod).
Now, if the goldfish I saw there last time ever gets big.......

I like the term Indi used, "conditioned".  Generally if I fish through there I adhere to his advice also, I like fishing slumpbusters and bunny leaches in size 6 or even 4.  You can move some big fish through there on streamers.  However, like mentioned a small SS or egg drifted can also produce some nice fish.

It is almost like a novelty to fish the paradise, it is worth a stop but not worth a whole day to me.  There is plenty of water other than the paradise on SC that holds loads of fish that are far more cooperative

The section where you can't wade is very short. There are signs.
    Last time out,,,,,,,, inch worms....plop....

Good........ Someday, and that day may never come, I'll call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift on my daughter's wedding day.
