since i'm only 5'9" i go with a bps tourney special 7' medium heavy rod with a daiwa capricorn 6.3:1 casting reel. i like that faster speed because it helps me get fish out of cover quicker especially if i need to get them on top of the pads.

I probably do more pitching than flipping but I have come to love my Berkley Series One 7'6" MH rod paired with a Quantum PT ACS reel (6.3:1 gear ratio I think) spooled with 20 lb. Vanish Transition line. Actually now have two identical rod/reel setups with the second one spooled with 50 lb. Power Pro braided line.

Are you using that heavy a line for salmon?  sheesh! 50lb. braid?!!! I thought a 12 to 15lb. test would suffice srs but I guess if you are fishing the pools of crowds and all them other lines, maybe that is the way to land a hookedfish. Personally, I try to avoid sr during peak salmon at all costs.  I like my new okuma steellhead rod i bought last year at fatnancys for 80.00 bucks!  looks like they gone up to a 100.00 this year! great 9 ft steelhead rod maybe just a tad light for those salmon but we shall see! my 4000 stradic and 4000 sustain to choose from. I might opt myself for a new 2 pc spinning rod. Hearing alot about berkley of late. Any try the taxtic im7 with those chromium guides? Got to try before I buy!

That was what I assumed the original question regarded since I have never heard of using a flipping technique for salmon or really any other species of fish.
