PFBC New cold water trout program

Has anyone a thought to any changes ? I'm thinking of all stocked trout streams going to a delayed harvest time schedule. Since our stocked trout numbers keep decreasing it may be nice to have them around longer. These license costs are another reason for a chamge. Trouters are going to pay the higher stamp cost for this program, so only trout fishermen should make the call for changes. All tackle, and a delayed date for keeping trout, first of June to start keeping (4) trout a day.

hell no... there will still be mortality from deep hook sets and mishandling early season.

not to mention the decline in pressure some seek after the barrage of ropers subside

"Sure, we can assiduously three-quarter our wets downstream, mend and wait out each fly swing, over and over again, which to my way of thinking, anyway, relegates the angler to the role, not of nemesis as it should be, but of butler."

What's a few lost to deep hook set, visa-vie all gone. Meat in the pot response i guess. I can take you to a place now, in a stream where countless trout can be caught, with bait, returning trout to the stream with deepset hooks. Big trout little trout all species. It's that decision to save the hook that kills the fish. You know that's a nickle hangin in that fish and some will do anything to save it. The fishy comm. has done studies supporting whatever their angle is on the subject but I've seen these trout caught over and over to a very small number dying from hooks. Heck the ****ed heron does more damage than hooks. There should be an official season on those trout stuffed birds. They may be tasty.....

Well, when I keep a trout (cause I make fish oil for trapping and for use as pike bait in certain places ) and if has swallowed the hook, yes I'll rip the size 12 hook out...It's going to be dead anyways

    Smoothy, well said!
Even if the hook is swallowed, as lomg as no attempt is made to remove it, and you just cut the line, the fish will be fine. No matter what, play the fish as quickly as possible and keep them in the water.
