New guy

Hey guys, brand new to the board. I am looking for a little advice of trolling for summertime walleyes on Saratoga. Just looking for depths i should be looking for. We have been out twice now trolling around and haven't had any luck with the eyes, but plenty of luck with big sunnies and a few largemouth. Thanks guys.

Duane:  I don't fish Saratoga but have a friend that does and he likes to troll just outside the weedbeds with stickbaits.  What depth he trolls at I do not know.  I think some others on this board will be able to help you out though.

Welcome aboard Duane you'll find a great bunch here who are realy good about helpin. I have just started fishin for the eye's myself so dont have a lot of experience BUT! I have been finding them in the same location as the bigger crappies and thats just a few feet from the deeper weed line, espescialy those that are off the points to even deeper water. where they have short runs to shallower feeding areas over the shallower weed beds when they ready to feed then they drift back to the edge again. for me its been back ond forth on those.
but there are those here that have a lot mor knowledge than me ( an eye's rookie) that can help you for sure.

A lure drawing the first strike of an early morning, the strong tug on the end of your line, the excitement of a leaping fish... that,s livin large!

ohh, btw, the fish i caught may have been suspended a bit off the bottom, i got a lot of hits on the drop, as well as when i picked up speed.

ohh, and welcome to the forum

Well I made it up there for a Saturday fishing trip only once so far and did good on the crappies thanks to Eagle Ed and Wisdom givin me some great advice and inside info. I found them just as they suggested. the crappies I found off the end of private docks and a few off the deep end of fallen trees and then some bigger ones off the deep end of weed beds. They told me the eye's where being taken with bottom bouncers and worms. I plan on spending at least one day there before or just after jimmy jam 2. I can say the crappie where good sized and plenty full. these are the two jigs I catch 90% of my crappie on and even have had a few eye's on not to mention bass and pick with plenty of pannies. the curly tail bringing the most results now.  worked slow and deep with a tight line fall, for many strikes are on the down fall around 15 to 25 ft deep. in the middle of the day then fish it a little faster and shallower in early morning or late afternoon with trolling doing well too.

Duane:  There's a separate thread about the Jimmy Jam.  You can read all about it.
