Lake Erie Tributary Diary Program

Just wanted to send out a reminder that the Lake Erie Unit (NYDEC) is always looking for new volunteers to keep fishing trip information for both Lake Erie tribs and open lake.  The diaries are small booklets (a little smaller than half the size of a sheet of paper) and are easy to fill out for each trip.  This is the best and most consistent way the DEC keeps tabs on the tributary fishery (or open water).  Each year after the data is tabulated the used diaries are sent back to you along with a nice write up on the results and the latest news on our fishery.

Whether you make one trip a year, 50 trips, are a poor or great fisherman, the more info the DEC receives the better their results become and with that comes the ability to make more informed decisions.

If interested here is the contact for the cold water program : Jim Markham at 716-366-0228 or send an e-mail to jlmarkha@gw.dec.state.ny.us

Also this fall and spring, the LEU is doing another round of in-person angler surveys at the major access locations on our tribs to supplement the diary information.  They ask for your cooperation and they definitely appreciate your help!!
