Musky fishing question

I am fishing the tionesta outflow this weekend and among other baits I plan on using chubs for bait, what would be the best way to fish them, under a big slip float or no float?

Thanks
Josh

floats period 3-4 feet down all ya need. If you have it on the bottom you will snag every cast, float right along the rocks.I mean right on the rocks.

My 2 cents, please use a quick strike rig, Alot of muskies die when taken on live bait if hooked to deep, even if you cut your line. I am not trying to start a battle just looking out for the fish that many like to catch and release. Good luck keep us posted

I agree with not using live bait for Musky!  Too much risk of deep hooking them.  I am catch & release only so that others have a chance to enjoy catching them.  Good luck with whatever method you pick.

I also agree that live baot kills alot of skis. If you do use a quick strike rig. You can get one at Dicks for $5.00. No matter what you chose to use have long pliers, hook cutters and jaw spreader. Good luck. I might see you there.

Why not use large circle hooks with the live bait for the skis?  Maybe that is what is on the quick strike rig but it doesn't sound like it.  Circles work great for just about anything else out there.  Don't use the offset circles either, use the ones that are inline with the shank.  Offsets will hook a little better but also have a better chance of snagging a fish in the throat or stomach rather than the lip.  Don't "set" the hook with the circles.  Let the fish take the bait for a good while and then reel up and keep tension on the line.  Should be hooked in the lip when you land it.  Will work for the cats well too.  Leave as much of the hook exposed as possible to make the circle work good.  Keep the area from the turned in point to the shank totally clear.
