I got my ticket.  This is for a great cause and it is a tax right off too.  If I could have afforded more right now I would have bought them.  But with a kid on the way I have to justify to the wifey what I spend cash on.

Once again this is a great cause for a great guy and family.  Never personally me the man but he inspired me in many ways on these boards.

I will see if I can sell anymore to the yough river boys.

Guys,

Sorry for the delay, I've been in West Virgina doing some dirt bike riding.  I think I've answered all emails and caught up on all postal mail.  Right now we are in the 40 plus a few tickets sold.  I was really hoping we would get into the range of 100 tickets sold but we'll have to see.  At 40 tickets sold that looks like a 1:2.5 chance of winning some prize.

Take a look at the web page for some new pictures, http://terryyocumraffle.com.  Did anyone ever see what $70 looks like when it is just 2 stripper guides on a fly rod?  That's right $35 per guide but they are a sweet set of stripped agate strippers.

Wally Cat,

The guides going on the spinning rod are Fuji TATSG's and they will be over $100 to fit-out the rod.  The weight savings is pretty incredible but with all things in regards to performance or bling they cost.  The entire set of guides that will go on the spinning rod will weigh less than a single gathering guide on a factory rod.  The wood alone in the spinning rod cost more than some low end steelhead rods.

To be honest I don't think many understand the amount of stuff involved in this raffle.

Wally, I realize that, but they are really neat.  I have never had a rod with anything like that on it.  Of course, A fancy rod does not mean I will catch more fish, but it would be cool to fish with top class rod.

Wally Cat,

You are making my point for me.  At least 4 of the rods in this raffle are not just fishing poles.  You can go to Walmart and buy a pressed woof dresser with a very nice plastic laminate faux wood finish and this would be called a dresser.  However, dresser that is made from book matched **** walnut top and drawer fronts with half blind dove tail drawers and a hand rubbed finish is not just a dresser but real furniture.  The average factory rod had around 3 hours of actual labor in the entire construction.  The wood pieces used in the fly rod have more than three hours of time in turning and glue-up and finishing alone.  The wood is red malle with Ebony inlays.  The red malle was selected to make sure a bit of the cream sap wood remained in the finished turned pieces to provide contrast with the deep red burgundy of the red malle.  The small wood piece that the nickel silver butt tack fits into took about 40 minutes to turn because it is so delicate while being turned that the first one broke and I needed to turn another.  The nickel silver butt tack is being engraved with a nymph that I’ve hand drawn.  You are right that it is just a fishing pole but at some point I would like to think that the rod has moved from a basic fishing implement to a fine piece of craftsmanship.  At least I would like to think that.

You purchased 4 tickets to the raffle and that shows that your heart is in right place.  I really thank you for helping get this project off the ground and I also thank you for helping me to understand where I may have come up short on my salesmanship.  In the end it’s pretty much my fault in not conveying what’s up for grabs in this raffle.

Folks have no idea what an artist you are Scott.  Maybe artist is the wrong term since you not only build rods that are a work of art, but fish as good as they come as well.

Whomever wins the rods will be thrilled beyond imagination.

As soon as the delivery service person hands it to me tomorrow, I'm hittin' the tribs!

Scott's been busy with countless issues, and I've been patient.  After all, my $3.33 worth of tickets I won it with keep me from getting too impatient with him.  My guess is the rod is worth more than 100x that.  If I had to wait 6 months for that rod for what I spent, I would.

Well, then again...

wow, i don't know where to begin.

i've been away from the boards for a few years now.  people may/may not remember me - that doesn't matter.  i come back and see that terry has left us physically.

terry was a great individual and didn't his physical limitations stop him from truly enjoying getting out in nature.

i remeber helping him getting his pictures up and online, so that everyone could see him and his boys, how happy they were catching fish.

he always had a nice thing to say about everyone.  that'll be what sticks with me.

scott, i'll be sending you an email shortly.
