Quick One

Sometimes a plan comes together and really works. Roosted a bird last night at 8.30,had a prefect walk to roost sight,on a old logging road in the morning, stopped to listen and he gobbled  at 5.30 maybe 60 yards a way,I found a big cherry tree and sat down quick, this bird went nuts on the limb,he pounded to every tweedy bird and crow,he had to gobble 40 times. At 6.00 I gave him three soft tree yelps on my slate, two gobbled back, five min.later tree soft yelps and a couple of quick clucks,a hen almost lands on top of me,seconds later two giants pitch down,6.15 I seal the deal,10 1/4 inch beard,1 1/8 spurs,20lbs.How can anyone not like turkey hunting.

Tuna.. sounds just like what we just did but I didn't roost any. We walked in but didn't hear any gobbles but set up in the area anyways because we've had good luck in there. At about 6 still nothing so I gave 3 soft clucks and one let loose almost on top of us and didn't quit after that. Probably 5 or 6 sets of purrs and clucks and my buddy smoked him at about 15 yards at 6:15. Just a little jake but it was his first bird so ya gotta be happy for anyone getting their first.

Roosted the other big bird that was with mine,on friday night ,took my son there Sat. morning, four hens fly down then the big butter ball,my son had the safty off four times but the bird hung up at 45 yards, watched him breed two hens, then they took him away. New plan different day, after the Sat. hunt my son and I cleared a path with are feet to a closer spot to his strut zone,( thank Kroll 243,never to old to learn a new trick)Monday morning 5 am at the spot( it took forever for day light but worth it) 5.30 butter ball number one starts to gobble, then number two, then number three, fly down time around 6:00,first a hen, then a butter ball, then another butter ball ,butter ball number one is a LB,and so is number two, nuber two the strutter and boss,6:15 boom,9 3/4 beard 1 spurs 20 lbs, where done,it was a good year.
