knots

I've been doing my own knot war test on my own b/c my knot on my taper leader and tippet always break, The knot that i use is a blood knot, I've been playing with the idea of using two perfection loops together ( loop to loop)  from the end of my taper leader to the top of my tippet  than improved clinch at my fly, On my test the clinch knot breaks before the perfection loops do. So my question is has anyone used this methed with good results or does anyone have any other ideas.  I've been using stright floro from my fly line to my bait b/c i'm tried of it always breaking, but that is starting to get pretty expensive, thanks for your help

Tight lines and happy days

If yer blood knots are breaking, yer doing somethnig wrong or your diameter size of each line aren 't close enough.
Constant leader to tippet breaks sounds like a diameter issue.  Once I get around .010 diameter and smaller, I don't use blood knots unless the diameters are within .002 of one another.   You can get away with knoting .022 and .017, because they are heavier.  Make sense ?

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

    Double uni knot.

That is the knot I use to attach tippet.  I use the double surgeons to attach heavier sections together.

Since switching to a furled leader, I use the loop-to-loop, but before that, I used a surgeons knot, and it did everything I asked of it: strength, speed, simplicity.

Loop to loop is nice and saves from having to keep cutting back on the leader to retie tippets.
Don't make the loops too big.

KHJ, Ned is taking your wife to the dentist for braces so the little kids in the neighborhood stop calling her the black & decker pecker wrecker.

I use blood knots on everything. Like Silverkype said- .002 or it's not gonna hold.

Buy your own spools & tie your own leaders. It's way cheaper & you get a better feel for what you need to tie back on after a break off or whatever.
I also carry 0x-6x with me at all times to rebuild if need be, due to crap always happens when I go fishing, or I change setups like from streamer to dry, or vice versa.

    SilverKype speaks the truth.

Also, do not forget to use a little saliva lube before snugging the knot.

i like the double surgeons for tippet..is it still as strong with heavier tippet sizes? dont see why it shouldn't be,  or is there a better knot for larger diameter?

I use the double surgeon knot and have had no problem.  But as was mentioned with furled leaders I use the loop to loop.  I have had equal success using either the perfection or Double Surgeon loop.

For steelhead, this setup works for me:

Indicators - 4 to 5 ft 20 lb clear maxima, blackbird swivel, 2 to 4 ft  seagar grand max 2x or 3x fluorocarbon.

Swinging - 18" 20 lb clear maxima, blackbird swivel, 3 to 3 1/2 ft of tippet, usually 1x fluorocarbon.  This short leader is attached to a sink tip using a double surgeons loop.

Many people do not like swivels in their leaders, I like them because they are a strong, convenient point for attaching tippet.  The small blackbird swivels will not spook fish or detract from the castibility of the leader.

Strongest knot for attaching tippet to swivel or fly is a 5 turn trilene knot, stronger than an improved clinch and just as easy to tie.
