30 birds is a pretty good flock. around here a few years ago we had alot of 30 bird flocks now if you see 15 or so that is a good flock. most of the time spring we will have 2 gobblers to about 5 or so hens hanging out which makes hunting them not quit as hard. use a single jake decoy and soon as the gobbles see the jake around there hens ,hes yours.

We had a flock as big as 30 in the yard here a month or so ago. Now, it seems like they've broken up a bit. Recently, there was a gobbler here along with 3 jakes. Later a group of seven hens showed up. Seems like the big winter flocks are breaking up.

large flocks like ones that have 82 birds eventually break up and spread out once the pecking order gets hammered out in relation to breeding. i counted 110 birds on a farm in wv earlier this year, that became 63 for a bit, and now 43 or 44 birds there now. coyotes keep flocks together too, more eyes means more piece of mind. something about that: last couple of seasons in one area, gobblers where tree hopping to calls and decoys, one day last season with b-mobile a gobbler ran some three hundred yards and stopped dead about 75 yds out, turned right and flew away, next a coyote trotted onto the scene!#%! my buddies got some coyote hounds, killed 14 coyotes from that starting point this past winter, hope this puts the birds at ease...

I chased a group of about 8 this morning while I was out walking in the snow. They were not very vocal, but every now and then, I'd see them running about 100 yards ahead of me.
