Your biggest fish

What was your biggest fish and the story behind it? Mine would have to be a 54 inch musky from pymy. 15yrs. ago. I was night fishing in May for walley,s with the rocks in an old brake can as a tip over to let me know when I got a bite. The can tipped at 1:00 A.M. and the line was rolling off faster than you could count. I waited till it stopped , then started moving again. I was using fat heads ,large ones, from a local creek. Then i set the hook. It was a heavy fish. First I thought it was a carp. As I brought it closer I realized it was a musky. Well I was using 6lb. test and took it easy. The net we had was way too small for anything that big. After a half hour battle it was by my feet. I reached down and grabbed it by the gills ,only to end up with a h--- of a gash in my hand. This fish surely would have wieghed 40lbs.! I layed it on my tailgate,!978Ford, and it hung out 4 inches on each side of the gate. No camera, no bait shop open, and I could not afored to get it mounted, I let it go after reviving it so she could swim away on her own. One great night!

While in Freeport Bahamas with 3 freinds we decided to get an afternoon fishing charter.
All day morning charter would be better but we were allways out late in the clubs or casino.
Less than a mile out we started trolling ballyhoo with teasers and hooked up something that wanted a fight.
My friend Ronny and I took turns fighting it and when we finally landed it found we had a baracuda almost 4 feet long. I saw why they have the bad reputation-while gasping for air they act like they are trying to bite everything in sight.
We asked the guide about having someone cook it for us be he said it was a trash fish that nobody ate.
Then we asked about geting it mounted and he said "I don't know mon
We should of revived it then released it but after taking a few pictures he threw it into a huge cooler.

Only had a few other bites that day but nothing else landed.

Less than 30 seconds after we got off the boat the native guide was running down the dock with the cuda.
I wonder who had fresh fish for dinner that night or if it is mounted on someone elses wall?

I am looking for the pictures from that trip but it was a few years ago-before digital cameras and my photo storage was shoe boxes inside larger boxes.
I wish I at least kept the skull.
I have seen musky heads mounted on a pole along Chataqua Lake that looked menacing at the time, but a baracuda head is something almost from a horror movie.

my biggest fish was a 34'' 13lb catfish i caught while drifting for walleyes in the lake. But my best fish i ever caught was a brown trout. I was visiting my Grandmother and she has a small wild brown trout stream running through her back yard. i went down tossed a worm in behind this rock and before i new it i had this huge 25'' beatiful brown on. I landed the beatiful fish without touching it and i removed the hook and measureed her as quickly as possilbe. That was one of the best experiences fishing i have ever had.

Actually Marty, their flesh can be poisonous. Something about the small fish they eat being poisonous. I'm sure Google will provide all the answers.

Here's a few pics I took a few years ago while in the Bahamas. The bigger mahi was 50lbs and I brought that one home. I had a fish fry with 30 or so pounds of steaks. The others are just a few cuda. Still can't beieve I jumped right in and grabbed them with my hands. I have many more pics but most are now lost in the mix of pictures of my kids. Heh.

Cuda, especially the big ones and the ones in the Carribbean can have Ciguetera poisoning.  It is a poison produced from the coral that the smaller fish eat and accumulates in them, then the predator fish eat them and accumulate even more.  Same process as Mercury poisoining up here but you get a really nasty flu like sickness and it can be deadly.  A couple from Texas got sick from eating a large grouper they caught near the Flower Gardens (large reef structure) located in the Gulf of Mexico south of the LA and TX coasts.

I have had smaller cuda caught off the rigs in Texas and they are actually really tasty.  The meat is white and mild but firm and they make great kabobs.

Here are some of my bigger fish caught while in Texas,

Caught lots of redfish up to 35 lbs, jack crevalle, numerous 4-5.5' sharks, etc.

Worked out of Port Auther in 77-78, blowing in oil wells off shore. Caught a ton of fish while I was out there. I would work 12 on then 12 off, unless it was a hot hole. then you hoped it would not blow. You must have had a good time!

Loved it down there.  Lived in Kingwood, just northeast of Houston and did a lot of surf fishing at High Island, Galveston and Surfside.  Offshore fished out of Matagorda with a buddy and bay fished (on a different buddy's boat) and wade fished West Galveston bay and Trinity bay and the many lakes off of the intercoastal.  Maybe going back in a year or two when our job down there at the airport gets up and running and into the construction stage (as long as the company makes an offer I can't refuse like last time).  Although, I am glad I am not down there this year.  They have been inundated with water almost every day the entire summer and between the flooding and the skeeters, I'll take our weather up here right now.

I was on a vacation in Punta Cana with my girlfriend we stayed at the Sunscape I booked a half day charter the seas were a little rough we ran close for a couple of hours caught some Cuda Mahi Mahi then one of the ladies puked right in front of everyone and it turned into a sick fest the guides and me were the only ones not yacking.  So, we decided to stick it out I was the only one still fishing and we hooked a blue marlin I got it in took bout 1 1/2 hours to get it in 8 1/2 foot long and 270 lbs.  I'll find the pic and post it when I get a chance.

I am not sure if it was the biggest but It is the most memerable. Back in 1999 I got a big palamino on East Hickery creek.  It was stocked a week before the opener.  I fished for it alot.  Had it chase alot of lures and stuff but could not catch him.  He made it about a mile down stream thoughtout the summer.  Labor day weekend I caught him on a huss.  Took some pictures and released him in the river since thats where he was headed.  He was 24 inches long. Even if I could not fish for him I would always check to to see if he was still in the creek.

My biggest was a 19# carp.  Caught it this past spring on the Lower Niagara, while casting tubes for smallies.

biggest in weight was probably an 8 pound plus eye out of ashtabula.  did not enjoy it as we winched them from 60 feet down.  also have nailed bigger carp, but i guess they don't count.  btw, nice pictures here.

This is the biggest fish I got to put the tape to. This Musky was from Eaton Res.(Bull Dam). It taped out at 48". I was casting a musky jitterbug.  I caught a 50" Musky at Woodcock about 15 yrs ago but was too inexperienced to get the dang thing in the boat. Probably was best for all involved.
