I was on the LJ today and actually saw a few olives there.  At the fly shop yesterday I heard some talk that guys were starting to see fishable numbers of them on SC, especially in the past few days.  I haven't fished SC in a little over a week so I can't personally attest to that.  I will probably be fishing either Yellow or Spring sometime this week, I will report back with my findings.

Dave, if you get a day off, let me know. I'd like to fish YC in the next week or 2. I bet the olives are there already.

I went fishing on Friday down here. I saw some Olives blowing by in the breeze. I did best with March flies though.

I hope my friend doesn't back out on me. I've never fished up that way.

I fished Yellow Creek today, probably for the last time ever.  I pulled into the lot around noon and noticed I was the 13th car in the lot!!

I ended up looking for a place to fish most of the afternoon.  I found one small run which I had to myself and caught some fish out of it, once they shut off there I searched for more water with no success.  Just about every bit of water deeper than 2ft was occupied!!  Forget that place, there are plenty of other rivers in the area where I can do well and experience at least some solitude.

By the way, BWO's were few to none during the time I was there, between 12-3:30.  I saw a few risers, looked like they were taking midges, although I never got the chance to fish for any of them.  It was also pretty low, which sure didn't help support the crowds.  I must say, plenty of arrogant anglers on that stream, I am not sure how some of them could still walk with their noses that high in the sky.

The funny thing about the YC is that those guys walk around with their noses high in the air, but i'm not convinced any of them fish anything but wooly buggers.... even during hatches. No joke. There can be fish rising all over the place, and those guys will plop a bugger right on top of them.

The best time to fish YC is before the stock truck shows up. It's barely fished up til that point.

I knew the stocking was going on this week.  Even so, I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from there.  To think, I drove right over the Little J to fish a stream that reminded me of first day.

Drake, I saw tons of people fishing buggers, I think you may be right that most of those guys fish them and nothing else.  I had an orvis decked out retired age guy argue about what color a sulfur nymph was too, I guess mine were different than the ones in the orvis catalog, so I must have been wrong.

i was at Yellow Creek yesterday too. It was busy, but there was still room to fish.
And hey, what's wrong with wooley buggers?!!! Just because they aren't as dignified as a size 20 dry, they catch fish!!! That's the bottom line for me.

To answer the question, there were some blue wings coming off, not a ton, maybe size 18-22. Just up from the parking lot, where the water gets real deep, they were rising for them.

I fished YC on wed. There was only about 4 other vehicles there at the time. I did well on midges and noticed some blue wings coming off but very few. I would have to agree about some of the arrogant anglers on the stream. My last trip there, I was at the top of one hole and this old guy was at least 30 yards or so from me and he told me, "I don't love you right now and if you get any closer, I will tell every guy here that you like me." I flicked a little tongue at him and he left, lol. I wasn't even near this guy. The old man and a friend of his were surrounding my buddy earlier, almost hugging him and we let it go. I just hate people who think they own the stream.

What color did he think they were? I'm sure the kid in the sweatshop that tied his orvis sulphur nymphs has seen sulphur nymphs before and made them the right color.

I had a guy on YC tell me that a 5wt is only good for nymphs and streamers, and that a lighter rod should be used for dries. He said that's why he only really fishes with a 3wt, bc he only fishes dries. I'm glad he cleared that up for me

It wouldnt be hard to hit someone with a rock there. All you'd have to do is throw one across the creek anywhere on the FFO water, and you'd probably make contact with something with an orvis logo on it.

The olives just started on spruce. Not enough of them to fish on top, but the baetis nymphs are working pretty well.

Manged to catch this fatass on sunday. I apologize for the hero shot.

I hear ya about catching Beaver's fish. A friend of ours has a small stretch of stream on a water that Beaver leases directly downstream of his lease.

I fish that water nearly all year, and weather they are stocked or not, those big bows sure are fun to catch. Some of the exceptionally large ones that holdover really are some of the prettiest bows I have ever caught. And the size they get is insane, we have caught many in the 8-12 pound range.

That's what the big Bows in Big Spring looked like below the hatchery when it was going. A 19" fish was about 4# & another # for every inch bigger. I miss those fish.
