StandOut Dropshot hooks!

I didn't want to get into this so deep on the other dropshot thread so I just started another one for poeple wanting to get into this kind of fishing!

Here's a video that shows the standOut hook in action. Watch how that bait stays perfectly out....

I really like the way Standouts hold the bait horizontal, but I had NO luck the last time I used them.  Changed to Owner Mosquitos and started catching?   I need to give the Standouts a try again.  I think it would eliminate a lot of my line twist issues.  With a normal hook, the bait just spins on the retrieve.

    Trout,

Another way to get rid of those line twist is to give up that mono and go 100% braid!

    Mike,

Thinking about trying braid with a floro leader on one DS rod this year.  It would save much $ on line, that's for sure.  What braid do you use.  I'm leaning towards PowerPro.

Power Pro is the best! And believe me when I tell you...I've gone through 1000's of yards of all differants brands, but PP is THE BEST!

I'll respool about every 2-3 years and my reels never dry off during the season! It's pricey, but being that it last so long ends up saving money!

Trust me....once you go with braid, you'll NEVER go back to monos or flouros!

What # would you suggest for a 2500 size reel on a ML/XF rod?

    8lb

you will only need to load it with about 75-100 yards as long as you use mono backing first!

Wind knots can be a headache when you first start using it...
The best way to stop this from happening is to manually close your bail and don't ever just reel it closed!
After you close the bail, pull line tight to the spool before you start to reel! I normally use about 3-5 feet of leader so the Uni to Uni cant be reeled into the guides and casted through them!

Use a Uni to Uni knot to tie your leader. PP is a very "slippery" line and most good knots don't work well at all!

You will catch more fish if you like to drop shot! You will feel everything down there. You will even feel when you're on rock, sand, grass, or mud! Once you sart fishing with it....in a matter of a few months all your rods will have it!

When I use floro, I only put 50 yds. on with mono backing and I always close my bail by hand.  The last time I used braid (Fireline), I used a Spro micro swivel for my leader connection.  I was never comfortable with the Uni to Uni.

Do you not like to tie the uni or you don't trust it?

I hope I'm not out of line here, but... FishUSA.COM has sweet little knot tying tool that makes uni/uni knots simple STRONG, and fast.

Sit in front of the TV and tie a ton of them. Within a few days you'll tie them with your eyes closed!

I'll second the vote of power pro, i used it for a few years on musky rigs now and beat it around i've had no problems at all.  Last year i put it on a couple spinning rigs for bass and a couple casting rigs other than a few wind knots its strong and sensitive.  I used the swivel connection at first and then the uni to uni knot, i had better luck strength wise with the swivel and 2 palomars but the swivel no matter how little hindered some of the action...

Picked up my PowerPro today.  Gander had a special......buy 2 spools, get 1 free.  I got a spool of 8 & 10 for the spinning reels and a spool of 50 for the casting reels.

    Good to hear it, Trout!!

I use PP today and is was well below freezing, and you know what? It did very well!
It actually did better than I thought! I seem to have trouble with it a while back, but it actually performed better than mono!

Nice running in to you venomous.  As anticipated, no one showed up for our seminars.....what a waste of a Saturday.  Should have gone bluegill fishing.

I'll have to pick you up on my way to Yough Dam sometime this spring so we can drown those worms.
