I understand.  But the crossbow will always have legislation connected to it, directly or indirectly, or perhaps both.  Depends on which angle you look at it.  As with a few other decisions the PGC has made.  In reality we can't except legislation to not interfere, but that doesn't take away from the truth of the matter that they are and what they've affected.  I'm not going to place blame on Marc Gergley for wanting to introduce a bill to pass magnified scopes.  Those folks that have them would be getting screwed.   It'll certainly lessen that the 'draw' to the season away from the folks who want a challenging equal playing field.   Just like the 'draw' to an artifical lures and flies only area, or strictly catch and release stream.

From my point of view, I see a lot of crossbow hunters willing and excited to pick up a crossbow yet I've never seen an organization formed (until now) to make progress on a common belief.   Why it that ?  Because it clearly shows the lack of strong desire for crossbow hunting but now the willingness to take advantage of opportunity.   I hate to say it dpms, others have, but that reminds me of welfare in society.  I know that's somewhat inaccurate and a stereotyped statement, but it really is partially true.   If we could step back 20 years, when the deer herd was exploding in central PA, and have a crossbow organization formed and have them lobby for what they want.  But we can't.  If you don't want the crossbow crowd looked down upon, I suggest you rally up some troops, and do some great things for hunting.  Some of you folks can make fun of the UBP all you want, but they've done a lot with the disabled hunters program, and a lot with working on new hunting opportunities.  Same with other organizations.  We taught over 400 children to shoot a bow this past weekend at the Pittsburgh show.  It was asked (not required) that a dollar be donated for each child that shot.  That's a classy move.  No money 'required.'
That gives good perception.  I'd suggest the PCF takes the same path, works hard, and the perception of the crossbow and its hunters may be changed.  Probably take time.  Education about the crossbow and its limitations is probably equally important.  There's a lot of flares out there about crossbows; some true, some not.  Some may become true with the speed of innovation.  Education to those who are going to start hunting in bow season is important too.  I didn't see the PCF at the Pittsburgh show, yet saw excalibur manufacturers, another manufacturer, and a few parker's on display.  That speaks volumes and certainly doesn't help the crossbow community perception.  You folks need some exposure.  PCF says they got 500 members or so, so someone has got to be willing to help put a booth up at a show.  Putting the buck you killed this year a PCF booth at a show will draw some eyes your way.  Could get a few members too.

It's been 33 years since Ohio's crossbow inclusion.  I don't know the sematics on how that went down, but the bitterness still exists there today.  It's unfortunate, but it's human nature.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

I commend the UBP for what they have done, no doubt about it.  Some on the crossbow side refuse to do it or admit that we all benefit from their past initiatives.  What they do with community outreach is great.

As to the PCF, they have work to do.  It is my understanding that a Board of Directors will be announced soon which then will enable some organizing of thoughts and goals.  I hope that community outreach is a big goal.  The PCF having a presence at the BOC meetings, sport shows, shoots around the state will do alot to spread the word.  I will give them time to organize a little after the board is named.

Heck maybe the PCF and the UBP could share the same range at the shows?   Seriously.

I can't speak for the UBP but if the PCF does some good things, the perception about crossbows could be changed.   One thing is certain, perception will not be changed if you do nothing.

The PGC ruined rifle season . Now they are going to ruin archery LOL ..... Letting every sap use a cross gun will deplete the resource even further in terms of hunter numbers and hunter distribution. If you thought finding a spot was tough last year just wait till the masses are in your tree ..... Can you say more land posted !!!!! Getting to the point that there is TOO much opportunity . PAjokeCommission all about creating more opportunities for THIER budget ....GREED $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ stimulous I mean ....more cronies walking through the woods with badges lovely. Maybe next year they will pass a law about safety harnesses requiring them in this socialist commonwealth. How about some more bull**** to feed the greed. So how many more so called "ARCHERS" will this mean????? 600,000???? I wonder which cross bow manufacturer is padding Rendel's wallet? I hope this gets exposed some is getting PAID.

I agree way too many opportunies,TO SHOOT DOES,That's what the PGC wants you to become a DOE HUNTER,6 week bow season+ 2 weeks early in 2B, one week with inlines,2 weeks in gun,2 weeks inbetween gun in 2B,2 week of flint, another month in 2B after flint, give it a brake,I live in Beaver Co. and some of my prime hunting WAS IN 2B,but not any more, there gone,I'd be lucky to see deer there now.I'v got nothing againt youth hunting, but why protect the young bucks, only to be shot by Jr's or there outlaw dads,I think a little kid would be happy shooting a doe, does Pa. do a survey of youth shot bucks.Do you know you can shoot a deer 5 months out of the year? With the number of hunters in Pa. and all that time to get a doe,the ends coming, time to get a squirrel dog, cause thats about all that will be left.Go back to 2 weeks of buck only, and two days of doe with a gun,the other seasons are hard enough on the flat heads, the herd needs rebound in a lot of places.
