Mechnical heads to be outlawed

At least how I interpret it.

"An arrow must be equipped with a broadhead that has an outside diameter or width of at least 7/8 inch with two fixed cutting edges located on the same plane through out the cutting surface"

The way that reads no three or four blades and no bleeders either. That eliminates about 90% of the heads on the market.

Why would anyone get busted for mechanicals ???

They are legal... just as describes above...

at least --- 7/8 inch expanded diameter, width.. (cutting surface)

and at least two "blades" (cutting edges) have to be fixed to the tip...
expandables are fixed (attached) to the tip ...

basically it rules out using field tips and those "blunt" tips for small game...

they are not legal to hunt deer with because they do not have at least two attached blades (cutting surfaces) that will cut a width of 7/8 inch........

Doc, he misread it, it says at least two in the proposed regs. However, look at what you wrote-- Would you care to try that explaination on R. Bimber? I'd like to see you in handcuffs

    In the Regs now:

Broadhead—Shall have an outside diameter or width of at least 7/8 inch with no less than two cutting edges. Cutting edges shall be in the same plane throughout the length of the cutting surface. Broadheads may not exceed 3 inches in length measured from the tip of the broadhead to the point that fits against the arrow shaft.

The word "fixed" is a new.

Silver- I agree with you. If they didn't mean it why did they add the word. They could have left it as it was. My Rage heads by mfg definition are NOT fixed blades.

It looks like they changed a lot of the wording as well.  "Fixed" may be what trout is refering to .. "attached"

However, my definition of "fixed" is not attached.  A fixed blade does not expand or move what-so-ever..  Perhaps the ruling does include mechnicals and the wording evolution is just changing with technology.

I don't know, I've aways shot "fixed" blades.

It could be that they don't know very much about archery hunting and don't realize the difference between fixed and expandables. They don't seem to know the difference between bows and boltguns.

I must admit I don't know for sure.... I always thought the fixed meant attached... but I also remember fixed meaning open and not moving more like permanent... now we have expandables...

Even if it does they can't be securely placed if they can move. And expandables move (sometimes when you don't want them to) Rather than keeping this up why don't you ask your friends at the PGC why they changed the wording and what they meant..

I am going to give a guess as it is a misprint. If it isn't, they will be getting a backlash from hunters that use them and the companies that produce them very soon.

It worked for the crossbow companies, why not the mechanical broadhead companies??????

I would agree that mechanicals will likely still be legal (wouldn't surprise me if the Tekan was not).  It is considered a barbed broadhead by at least a couple of states and is illegal.  As for the two blades on a plane, this refers to the blade being flat (lay it on a table...) and not curved.  The Crimson Talons have a curved blade and are therefore in violation.  This will be interesting, but I would imagine it will be reworded before it is enacted.

If it states "fixed" that means "no mechanicals". If that is what the agenda says, apparently their looking into the legal status of mechanical broadheads. Why do people care anyway? If they illegalized them, youll just have to buy fixed blades. Its not like their going to make you use sharpened flints.

A lot of people have problems with fixed blades flying correctly.  I don't see why or how, but they do.

they catch cross winds unlike a mechanical that simulates flying like a field tip. Not a real big difference though unless you like to hunt on windy days.

Probably has more to do with the distance you're shooting than the head.  I have zero trouble hitting the spot at 20 yards on a windy day with fixed blades.  40 yards would probably be a problem.

I think if the PGC wants to outlaw mechanicals, they would have issued some type of press release or statement mentioning the changes.

Mechanicals are just as deadly as fixed, and are often more accurate. I cant see any good reason to outlaw them.
