I've never met Chauncy - but I'm pretty sure I don't want to see anyone named Chauncy in a thong!  No offense Chauncy!   Chauncy -  which one did you get?

    OK Guys,
Here I HAVE to be missing the point.  What is the shirt showing?  Since I haven't ice fished since about the last ice age what's the signifigance?  Sorry to be so uninformed but at least I'll admit it.

The green line at 9 feet is the fish. The red line at 10 feet is a fish coming to hopefully eat the bait/fly/jig/whatever.

The circle you see in the face of a Vexilar (or other flasher).   People who fish with flashers will recognize the bottom - then just above is the red mark that represents the fish which is about to eat the jig - which is represented by the green mark.  If you haven't used a flasher there really is no way you would know what it is supposed to mean,  so don't feel bad for not knowing.

    haha, old duuds.

It's a picture of a flasher/depth finder(Vexilar ).   Everything else is labeled in the picture.  They help when ice fishing, you can watch your jig/bait bounce around down there, and watch as the fish come up to eat it, or as happens many times. Watch as they rise up off the bottom, stare at your junk for what sometimes is an eternity, then swim off without biting.  That's where the line on the t-shirt comes in   "c'mon eat it".  Depending on the fishes mood that day, you'll often here me yelling and screaming all kinds of names at them.

    Rap,
You read it just like you would a clock.  In Stillhead's pic(nice by the way) the fisherman is fishing over 11' of water(labeled bottom).  The fish is 6"-12" off the bottom.  The jig is at 9'.

They(Vexilar flashers) are a "must have" tool when it comes to ice fishing.

A camera is easier if you plan on staying in the same spot all day.   It takes a while to get a camera set up perfect so you can see your junk.   The flasher, you just drop the transducer in the hole and start fishing.  In my opinion, if you want to watch tv, buy a camera, if you want to catch fish, buy a flasher.

    Stillhead's kinda right.

I just got an ice pod for the camera so that should make positioning the camera much easier.

Vexilars are the cats****  I would take one over a camera any day of the week.  It really does allow you to catch more fish.

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.

Both have their advantages. If you're going to fish shallow weedy water, take your camera so you can see the fish in the weeds. My vex isn't that good when weeds come up to 5' under the ice. The camera lets me find those open pockets a lot quicker. Now if i had to choose just one, it would be the vex. Most lakes i fish dont have those kinds of weeds in them.

Chauncy. If your having problems in weeds and shallow water, try using the S cable, It reduces the units power and allows you to get aclear reading in those conditions. Also to Finsmin, cameras are great if the fish swims right in front of it.But if their suspended above or below the camera you'll never see them, and might end up leaving a spot that has fish because of it. Anyway Don't want to start a war over wich is better,But I love My vex and couldnt imagine icefishing without it.

I use an 18, set on the LP setting. No need for an S cable with this unit. I also use my camera while i use my vex. I can find suspended fish that way. Just lower it down to the level the fish are suspending.
