Eaton Res. (WARNING)

Just got off the ice at Eaton Res. and it is NOT safe! The snow did a lot of damage and made the ice very unstable!

There is only 1-2 inches of clear ice, 4-5 inches of very wet slush. After walking onto it this morning and noticing the water in my foot prints I went to drill a hole and went through. Luckly only one leg made it and we managed to make it off okay.

My advise would be to stay off untill next week!

Thanks for the post Mike.  I was on it thurs. night and saw signs of proplems.  Wind kept alot of snow off, but there was quite a bit of water on top mixed with snow.  It  was still good,  but alot more snow since then worried me. I have seen the ice pushed down and thinned like that on chatauqua before.  You saved me a trip this afternoon.  Were you on the dam side?

Not trying to say your wrong or anything Mike, but I fished it Saturday all day with some buddies.  There was about a foot of snow over top about 4-5 inches of slush, under all that there was 7-12 inches everywhere we drilled.  We were out at least 300 yrds into the middle, along with 20 other huts or so.  Towards shore it felt a little more slushy than anywhere, but there was a ton of ice all over.  Did you venture out or just drilled holes near shore?

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.

The further we got out the worst it got! THat's why we were so freakin baffled!
I went threw where somebody had been fishing yesterday! I bet there isn't a total of 6-8 inches of sluch and ice combined.

Talked to another guy and he said it was great Saturday! And I can also tell you that the ice was melting as we fished and got even wrost once we left!

I was on Eaton yesterday.  There certainly was alot of water on the ice, but there seemed to be ample ice where I fished.  Eaton is bad like that, probably die to he large snowfall it receives.w_w.

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

    birddog23,
Drove up to eaton this morning , got down to the bottom by the ramp and took a walk onto the ice. lots of snow out there, just the walk with no gear was difficult.
the drive down there was not plowed either and i managed to get stuck with my four wheel drive explorer. I did get out after rocking it back and forth. did not fish, I was the only one down there and nobody was out on the ice.

Remember, there are two kinds of fishermen, those that fish for sport and those that catch something.

My son and I were out at Eaton late morning and what a mess!  4" of good ice then 8-12" of snow, slush, some frozen mix.  We walked out to where we've had evening crappie bite in the past.  Couldn't see the shorline an hour later.  It snowed hard for over an hour and I was worried about the pull back and the the truck getting stuck getting out.  We pushed it for awhile, but the fish were ignoring us and that much gear stuck in the ramp area was a bad proposition.  My F150 made it out fine this time. LOL                       I'm way to out of shape for this!!!!!!
I think that there was more water on top on the way out than on the way in.  Might be pushing it down in again?
