Petersburg Power Dam

It's been quite a few years since I've been there (15 maybe) does the fire department still control the launch.  Also, does anyone ever catch fish there?  We got into some perch one time, but other than that not much of anything.  Nice canoe water though.

It's one of those waters that you never know what's going to be on the end of yer line.  I usually catch smallies but it's got it all .. huge browns, muskie, etc...

Last time I was down, it was really stinky.

We usually wade to the island and fish the other side.   You have to go downstream to get across.   It's almost neck deep.   Not much fishing pressure over there.

Thanks Silver - but what about in the dam itself.  I assume you're talking about below the dam.

What is the river called right after the dam?

Yes, I was talking about below the dam.  I have fished above the dam, not much luck.   It's all the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata.

Ahh - so Frankstown and Raystown branches are what come together at the point to form the Juniata?  Or does Frankstown dump into the Little J.  and the Little and Raystown are what form the Juniata - or am I completely wrong???

The frankstown branch starts around Claysburg.  It's first (or one of) feeder is beaverdam creek.  The Little J dumps into the Frankstown branch between the towns of Alexanderia and Petersburg.  The Raystown Juniata flows north under the turnpike, thru raystown lake and meets the Frankstown just east of the town of Huntingdon to form the Juniata -- all the way to the Susky.

Wow, what a ride - thanks for that geography lesson.  I've fished at the point where the Juniata forms several times- it's a bit more flow than I'm typically used to.

I'll tell you what, never and I mean never camp out above the dam with out a tent or something. Spent the night under the stars on a canoe trip this past September and just got blitzed by mosquitoes, like I have never been before, barely got any sleep at all, it was the worst night of my life.

May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.
