Sleigh for Clam 2000

Just finished my sleigh for my clam 2000. I am sure i was not the only one that had some diffculty pulling your clam around. This is my fix to that problem. I have not used it on ice yet, but have pulled in the yard and much easier that before. Its light, strong and still fits under my trucks bed cover. What does every one think?

That is sweet. I am going to build a clam sleigh myself this weekend, only mine will be made of schedule 60 piping and some old cross country skies. Not as nice as yours but it should get the job done.

I didn't realize those Clams are hard to pull, I have a one man hut I built in the 70's that's still functional only replaced the tarp a couple of times. The only thing I can see you need is a place to hold your bucket and poles and your auger. Unless you just plan to bungy them on to the top.....

The shelter has spots for buckets molded in the bottom of the shelter (can see them in the top pic) they work OK. I want to use it a few times to see if taking the time to think of and makes holders for those would be worth the effort.

As for the pulling effort, they go real nice if you have less than 3 or 4 inches of powder snow on ice. once you get the normal 8-9 inches it is more of a plow, riding somewhere in the middle. If you have a far walk you will be winded just from the pull out.

I have a Shappell and I have the same problem in deep snow as I found out today. I need to make something too, but has to fit in trunk of my car w/everything else, mine will have to be calapsable. Just my 2 cents worth. Smitty

Here's my new homemade sled for my suitcase shanty. I got tired of it being a snow plow instead of it riding on top of the snow. Now it is like pulling 5lbs behind me when I have probably 85lbs of gear on it. It puts together in 30 seconds and takes apart in 15 seconds. I tied the rope to the ski tips so it rides on top of the snow without sinking too much. It glides so easy over the snow! Now I,m not afraid of walking a long distance to a hot spot if I have to. It can be built for $15-$20 depending how cheap you get your skis for and what other stuff you have on hand. My skis only cost me $5 at our local thrift store. This also comes apart really easy so you can fit in your car like I have to, NO TOOLS REQUIRED! I thought I should share this for anyone on a budget or for one to get into your car Like I have to. I never really had intentions of making these to sell. Because i know that most people will not want one based off of sticker shock. But i did crunch some numbers and took a look at a few other ways of making these to try to reduce the labor cost (materail well thats out of my controll and a fixed price)

My sleigh took around 5-6 hours to design and build, and 100$ in materail
I have new runner system idea that i will try on my personal one so right now its an idea, not yet tried. It should reduce material cost.

I can make 4 sleds out of two sheets of aluminum (two different thickness for the different parts)
That breaks down to 80$ material for 1 sled.

And if i make 4 sleds i think i can get labor down to 2 hours a piece.

So 80$ in aluminum and 80$ in labor = 160$ for a hand made in the USA sled
That is an pretty good estimate, and thats if i can sell 4 of them.
I am one guy not a production shop, and honesty i would be suprised is people would want one knowing the price.
