Used to be great for crappie but ever since they drained it a couple years back the crappie fishing isn't at all what it once was.

Where do people normally fish on Eaton?  And do people fish there at night?  What bait is working (if any)

My father-in-law are thinking of heading out tonight around 10.  I talked to the owner of East End Angler...he said that people have been fishing on Eaton all week but I'm not sure how they were doing.

Its rarely plowed you either have to go for it or drive to the other side and take the long walk to the other end of the dam. Usually once one person gets a path through there its pretty east to get down in there. My buddy got stuck last year up there so be careful the drifts get big and its a long walk from the black road side.

Fished Eaton this morning. Went in from the backside. Its a long and hard walk pulling a shanty up that hill. Caught a couple of Pike, a few bluegill and fingerling size perch. Caught all using ice jigs and grubs. Marked many fish on my Showdown but they were all the tiny perch. Will probably wait till the bay ice gets thicker to venture out again.

I tell you what, I am very impressed with the Showdown unit. I have used a Vexilar in the past and it does its job but I would rather have the Showdown. The reasons are as follows: There is no noisey motor turning, the seperation is 1/2 inch. If you want that kind of seperation from Vexilar or Marcum you need to buy the LX-5 or the FL-20 which both run over $500.00 new (Showdown $269 New). The battery life is much longer on the Showdown. I would watch fish rush to my bait and when the fish was on top of my bait I would feel the hit at the same time. You can easily see the fish that are hugging the bottom. I am not knocking other units because they are nice and do the job, they have been proven for many years. The Showdown is a new technology that is just as good as the flashers. I was going to buy a Marcum LX-5 until I used the showdown and for the difference in money I was going with the Showdown. The zoom on the showdown is awesome, you can zoom anywhere on the water column unlike a Vexilar that only shows the bottom 6 or 12 Ft. If you purchase one make sure you buy the Showdown and not the VPG that was out last year. The VPG had some quirks that could be worked out by sending the unit back to Nature Vision with $10.00 and getting upgraded to the Showdown. They do not make the VPG anymore the Showdown took its place. In a nutshell I like the Showdown alot. It serves its purpose and then some. If you bought one I know you would like it. You will probably like the Marcum and Vexilar units as well. Its a matter of do you like the flasher or the straight up and down of the Showdown and how much money you want to spend. Go to Showdowns website and watch the videos they will tell you alot. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Heading to Eaton tomorrow. I called the baitshop and they said that the ice is a good 5 in. I need to get out I am getting cabin fever. With the deep snow melted I can pull into the back parking lot and save that exhausting walk from the water to the road. Wish me luck. Anyone know where I can get some inland minnows?

inland minnows can be bought at poor richards you just got to get the fatheads or golden shiners.  you can also do what i just got back from doing.  Trap your own shiners, suckers and chubs outside the lake erie watershead.  Got the redneck aquairum filled to the top right now with large shiners, chubs and a few suckers.

Crazy, I got my showdown at the Erie Sportstore on upper Peach. It was their last one. I dont know if the one downtown has any or not. you can find them on-line and most of the time with free shipping. The nice thing about them is they come with a nice neoprene carrying case.

Fished Eaton on Saturday on the dam side. Lots of good solid ice. Caught one small pike and hooked into something pretty big but lost a rapala perch jig..... only fished for a few hours, sorta testing the waters so to speak. Will be going back this saturday with the whole arsenal.... I can't wait till the bay freezes...

From Findley, rt 426.  As soon as you see the welcome to PA sign take the dirt road to left (Stetson road I think) ...you will see the lake on your right.
