Got out on the lake by 5 AM. Started off with top water and got nothing. Around 7 AM went to crank bait. Good choice cause I got my first smallmouth 2nd cast. All the fish were 10-20 feet off shore and 6-10 feet. For some reason they were on the bottom and suspended out over 25 feet of water. I got one whille my lure was laying on the top when i was working on my backlash lol. I saw an occaisonal bass chasing bait fish out of the water. Also two large mouth on the banks. Two pickeral about 15"
I change to 1/8 roostertails when the bite slows and then catch alot of panfish, w/big bass to keep me busy. All and all good day. Remember to downsize during slow times.
PS saw A record Small mouth bass clear the water about 4 inches high, around 10 AM. The glance I got of her was picture perfect, her shadow nearly gave me a heart attack. Catching nothing would have been worth just that split second glance.
