taxidermy

I have a question I hope someone can give a answer to. I took a nice buck during archery season. Took him to the taxidermist to have him mounted. He said I'll talk to you in abuot a 10 to 12 months. I said fine thats about right. He called me 2 weeks later and said my head was done. Can that be possible. I stopped by his showroom and saw it. It was my deer but is it giong to hold over time?

From everything I know they generally need to tan the hide, which takes roughly 2 months.  The actual mounting can be done in a weeks time.  That seems awfully quick to get your mount back, unless he used a hide from another deer to do it.  Maybe he is just hurting for cash that bad.

I don't think that is possible due to the time it takes to dry the hide out and tan it. They probably made a mistake and called the wrong person.

Once the hide is tanned, it only takes 8-10 hours to complete a shoulder-mounted whitetail.  It make take another day for some of the materials to dry, depending on what was used.

Like someone already stated, he may have used a different cape, especially if it was a younger(1.5-2.5yr old) deer.

I would be concerned for the hide.  If its your hide, quality may be an issue.  Pull on the hair when you go to pick it up.  If it pulls out, he didn't tan it correctly.  If he used a different hide, I'd being asking for a discount.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

I would consider that un-ethical, if done without prior approval of the customer.
