It's not the fisherman that makes the water, it's the water that makes the fisherman.

I remember reading in PA. Angler years ago of a guy that caught some big eyes out of French Creek.

His name was Ed Gray he is a legend on French Creek and is responsible for French Creek being as good as it is today( along with a few others. He used mostly his own jigs and would say if you needed to tip them you did not know how to fish them.Would have loved to pic his brain on French Creek but sadly he is gone and just his legend lives on...A friend of mine took a 32in 14lb monster out of French Creek one year and I personally seen a 13 1/2 landed one day. I have gotten many nice 15- to 25 inches from French Creek but never lit into a monster their yet..

You are exactly right about "Ed Gray" I have a good friend who fished French Creek with him years back! I never knew the man but would have loved the chance to spend some time with him. My friend told me the exact same thing as you stated, as far as tipping jigs w/live bait. My buddy, Norm says that he also made his own lures.....I can say from my own experience that he was correct about the live bait thing! I started scouting FC about 10 years ago & tried the jig & minnow thing to start! Caught very few, so started to experiment......I use nothing but stick baits now, and I do real well when conditions are favorable. Actually, I am hoping to get out this week if the rain ever stops! http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?03023100

I have learned from the above link when it is time to go fish FC.

Happy Holidays!

loby, i am beginning to think you are creating a legend yourself.  your posts on french creek and other waterways in crawford county are excellent.  appreciate you sharing info and tips all the time.

Thanks for the kind words, but I just love the challenge! That compliment is the best Christmas present I ever received! Here is a shot from my last visit to FC (12-4/5?)

Happy Holidays!

Nice lookin' fish loby.  I remember seeing all of your posts fishing Frenchy last fall/winter.  You seem to know where to find a few.  Good luck this winter.

First of all where did he get this fish weighed? If you caught a fish you
want to talk about it has to be weighed on certified scales.

The local grocery store will do.  I landed a 10lb 3oz walleye from french
creek in october,  had it weighed at a store in meadville and the store
owner signed it as a witness.  I was born and raised fishing "The Creek"
this is how to varify weight of your fish or have the fish commission do it.
