chapstick, or a commercial anti-freeze paste (forget the name) sold in fly shops.

Stanleys ice off paste made by Loon Outdoors...chapstick will work, but not as well.

Clean your line with mild detergent and give a coating of WD40 by applying a generous amount to a cloth and running the line through it.

Hey guys I'm no expert, but putting chapstick, wd40 or other toxic chemicals into your eyes may cause blindness.  I mean, come on...

alex, not in your eyes, you put them on your polarized sunglasses to keep them from freezing.  also, two tubes of chapstick will keep your nose from running if placed properly

Does the WD-40 repel fish?  I'd think it would.

I tried the chapstick today and it worked...okay...for a little while.

actually, i have known anglers to use it as a attractant both on lures and for ice fishing.  it was "the rage" years ago.  i always had problems with putting petroleum based products into the water any more than necessary.

Chap stick, also spray them with PAM.

WD40 will not harm the water or the fish...you can actually consume it.

Thanks Rap, I think I just threw up a little bit when I read that.  WD-40 is certainly a wonder-substance...but I dont think its creators had "condiment" in mind when they designed it.

WD-40 is an OUTSTANDING bluefish spray! All my bait gets it when fishing for blues in Florida.

I've actually heard of WD-40 and preparation H being used on jigs for walleye. Apparently preparation H has some sort of shark oil in it.

    Tight lines!

Wow...I think I'd rather consume some good ol' Water Displacement-40 rather than Preparation H...

Doesn't the preparaton H shrink your eyes up and make them more likely to clog?

Yep.  And if your rod's too flexible, try Cialis.

When I was a kid, some old timer suggested I used WD-40 on my worm in Presque Isle.

I caught my first LM the next cast and was amazed.

I'm kinda surprised others have heard of it.

not to add fuel to the discussion

but wouldn't something like vasoline work, unless the water content would cause it to freeze up.  Never tried it or never heard of anyone trying it (on a fishing pole that is) but if it didn't work, at leat your rod would easily slip into the trunk after use....lol  that's wrong in many ways...
