starter reel

I would like to start using a center pin reel, can i use it with my noodle rod and is there a cheaper model i could buy to practice casting and see if i like it?  I am always up for a challenge and this looks like a blast.

When i first bought my reel last spring i used it with a 10 ft noodle rod and also with a 12 foot crappie rod. Neither were ideal but i landed plenty of fish on each rod over the 2 days up there. I currently am using it with a 13 foot quantum float rod but i am still trying to decide what rod i want to stick with.

I bought the okuma sheffield and the cheapest place i found it was at gander mt. if thats the reel you decide on. I believe it was $174 or $179 last spring.

you can use it with a noodle rod,do not skimp on a reel,a quality reel is a lifetime investment.Got to see some custom made reels this weekend in the over $1000 price range, they are nice.the Okuma Sheffield model is great and at a descent price. If you can scrape up enough to get the combo with the rod from Fish Usa,well worth it.

A 11-13' rod is tough on a small stream,i put my reel on a 9' rod and it works great.Spool up the reel with 4lb.,casts very easily with a small float.
