Encoded ammunition

Saw yesterday that PA House voted down Bill HB2228 which would have imposed a $.05 cent tax per bullet as well as require that all bullets are serialized for tracking purposes. Was I the only one asleep at the switch? I did a search of the local papers and none had any mention of this attempted bill until it failed to pass. How many others were surprised by this? Imposing this bill would have amounted to a virtual ban on ammo.

I saw something on the news last night about this, they did a demonstration with the box of 500 .22 bullets. With the .5 tax and everything, it went from 19.26 to like 46.00 or something.

I've already bought 6 boxes of ammo for each of my guns.

I really hope this doesn't go through.

As much as ammo was this year, I'm surprised it hasn't already passed.

what is gained by that type of tax?  if the bad guys steal or buy hot guns, they will do the same with ammo.

Now you understand the plight of the sportsman Rap. Nothing is gained by it other than putting a burden on a law abiding citizen who enjoys the outdoors. But it does jive with the ideas of inner city representatives who think all guns and ammo are bad and that no one should have them.

We have always been outdoor people inthis country, hunting is the same as fishing. What if they put a huge tax on fishing line since it kills a couple endangered birds or water living mammals?

    It is the same thing.

I get back to my original question: Why has there been absolutely NO coverage of this issue by the media? Was this a deliberate attempt to keep sportsman out of the fight? If there had been coverage BEFORE a vote, I'm quite sure there would have been enough uproar from concerned gun owners to defeat this once and for all. Makes you wonder where the outdoors writes for the local papers actually stand!

Next on the agenda, serialized broadheads, well that might work but how ridicules to think a bullet can be serialized. Got ballistic tips?

They probably didn't announce it to the media because they want to skate it through before anyone knows what happened.

Yes I think that there is a conspiracy by the media to keep the hunters and gun owners out of the loop for this type of legislation. As to the media descrimination to hunters in particular consider the  " Beaver County Times " down here in Beaver County. They went from a page of outdoor news in the sports pages  to a piece about 6x6 inches of outdoors news and it is located in the neigbor hood section along with weddings, anniversarys, and baby births and other non pertinent info. This did not happen because there was no outdoor news to report and I have been told that the editors are contemplating eliminating all outdoor news. Everyone sould be alert and aware of the new political scene and " changes "

oh as far as the ammo getting encoded...i mean i could say i couldnt care but yet i do. whats it hurting you as a hunter being encoded? shouldnt hurt anything as far as being an outdoorsman besides the 5 cents. shells are ridiculous as it is and i cant see them getting cheaper with the "african" as pres But as i grow older i can see our society growing and growing into a panic state where the law is trying to be everything like that book, i cant remember the name...actually two books it reminds me of, one was about where they burned books and anyone who had a book was against the law... and the other book was about this drug called soma? i think that was called the a brave new world, where when you were born you were already decided what you were going to do and you took a drug to make you feel as if that was the best job in the world. its funny to think  read those books saying like wow that'll never happen but yet it seems not so unrealistic.

While indeed the encoding should not be an issue, the cost will NOT be minimal. Combine this with the tax and you have just begun a whole new revenue tream which will only get worse. Also, once this law passes, the reloading of ammunition will cease. The current uncoded ammunition in your possession will become illegal. This is little more than an attempt to over regulat guns.
