Skoal Apple?

I heard a story of a guy chewing skoal apple while archery hunting and a deer came up right under his tree where he was spitting. i thought the story sounded a little far-fetched but i guess it could happen? has anyone either heard of this happening or experienced it?

Some swear by it.  Probably true.  A friend swears he spit on a doe's back once and she licked it off.  Like anything else with whitetails, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  My opinion is to just stay as scent free as possible.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

I know it's a bad habit, but I've been chewing for many years....mostly wintergreen and cope. I can tell that I have had deer on several occasions sniff or lick the branches where I was spitting. I dropped a snuff can from stand once and had a small 8 point that I thought was going to pick it up and take it with him. Not saying that I may have not spooked deer unknowingly at times, but it doesn't seem to bother alot of deer. I agree, if in doubt go as scent free as possible...this has just been my experience.

I can not speak about Skoal Apple.  I chew Skoal Straight and have had does and button bucks come in and sniff and lick spit up under my stand on more than one occasion.  Must be something in the tabacco that they like.

Yeah the same thing you do, nicotine. All the years of them licking it up has them addicted.

Lure or bait?  That is the question......   Just gotta stir the pot.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

I think if it's just in your mouth and the smell is being spread by your breath, then it is a lure.  If you actually spit, it becomes a bait.  Clearly, I've spent way too much time thinking about this....

I spit some mint on a groundhog that was under me this year, i don't think it handled it to well, he took a smell, then licked it, then he shook his head for a couple minutes, must of burned him a little.
