What bow to buy

Hey guys.  I have been watching this board for a year or so now and just signed up few weeks ago and thought I would ask for some info.  I have been contemplating buying a bow and getting into the woods early the past few years and think I am ready to go for it, so here is my question.  What bow do I get and where do I get it at?  I have a few buddies that bow hunt so I assume my best bet may be to go with one of them and have them help me but I have also done some research on my own and the PSE's look nice just wondering your thoughts.  I would like to stay around $500 for the bow and sights and all.  Thanks in advance

Go shoot a bunch and pick the one that feels the best for you. For $500 total, your best bet would be to look into a Bowtech Sniper, or the Mission line by Mathews

Try to find a good bow shop in your area. Most have a good package bow in that price range..They will let you shoot different bows and see what one you like the feel of.

This would be your best bet. They all look and sound good but do they all feel good ?

500 bucks will get you a real quality bow as long as you do your research and get the one you feel most comfortable with...i shoot a reflex growler by hoyt, i got it for 650 a little over a year ago and the only reason it was so expensive was the rest and sights i got on it.  mission by matthews, from what ive heard is also a quality "made by" bow

You're right. Mission makes a great bow. I had the opportunity to shoot one this year, as I was helping a friend pick out a new bow. When you shoot one, you can surely tell that mathews makes 'em.

Like was said earlier, shoot a bunch then pick one that shoots well, and is within your budget. I'm sure you'll find one that shoots great for under $500. All the major brands make a great shooting bow in that price range.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help.  I just want to make sure I am making a good purchase because I'm sure this will be the bow I have for years to come.  I live over in western PA so I'm sure there are a few places around here to go to.  I heard CDS in Groce City is good.  Any thoughts on that?

Left handed really buckles you down in terms of going to a shop and shooting mutiple bows.

My local shop had a SB XT and a drenilan to shoot.  So much for choice.

Whatever the case, the bows of today are lighter, faster, smoother than those of yesterday.  With that said, the only thing I don't like about new bows is how light they are.  The lighter it is, the harder it is to be steady.   This may seem unimportant as you shoot at the range, but outside in the cold, layers of clothing on, with deer coming at you is a different story.  This was the reason I bought the SB XT over the drenilan.  I find that I like a bow to be 4.25 - 5.5 pounds naked.   Each of us of course are different.

One thing I really like about the newer bows is axel to axel length.  Doesn't it seem like deer love coming in from behind you?  I find the problems of moving from side to side of the tree , with the safety rope in the way, is smaller with a short bow.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.
