I spent 10 hours in the trees yesterday saw 5 deer.I had a really good spot yesterday in a grapevine thicket close to a bedding area.I found about 9 fresh scrapes down there.I thought i would see more bucks chasing but not yet.I was wondering what you guys have been seeing are they chasing if not when is going to get good?

It is on. I passed 3 legal ones yesterday afternoon all harassing the same doe.
Hunt the does or funnels. At this time of the yr. it can be feast or famine. If theres a hot doe in your area it's great but if she's in the next hollow or woodlot over your not going to see anything.

There is no set time when all the does come into heat on the same day.  I watched a buck breed a doe on Oct. 30th this year.  Every doe is different and every area is different.

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.

I was out thursday, but it was too warm.  I saw several deer moving about on the way to and from work yesterday.  I'll be out tomorrow and I'll see what's happening.

They have been active both chasing and breeding for two weeks. Mostly at night except on the cold days although I was hanging a stand thursday at noon and had one cruise by me. This next week should be the best if we get the cold they are calling for. Had 2 scrubs chasing a doe all around me yesterday morning.

I'd say it's pretty on. My cousin harvested a nice 8 pt last evening with a 16" inside. My photobucket won't let me see any pictures I load up idk what the deal is, but I'll try. He said he jumped a way bigger one with a doe on the way into stand about 50 yds from where he was setting up. He shot it at 3 30, and where he was hunting that's pretty **** rare. Also, yesterday afternoon while going to where I was going I jumped a big doe 10 yds away if that in some thick ****, and she took off running. Whoa and behold as soon as she took off big boy stood up. He has very white, high antlers. Probably 16, 17 inside but very massive and high tines. We stared at each other for about 20 secs as I tried to get an arrow off my quiver. As soon as I did he took off a hellin. I can hunt all day fri and sat so I plan on being there both full days. About an hour after I got settled down i grunted a few times and saw a deer soming right toward me. A baby spike/4 pt came within 10 yds and was lookin all around, but couldnt/didnt have no interest in my tinks that at one point was right beside him. He was just looking for a buck to mess with I guess. Hopefully I'll have pics to post on here later this week..

I'll be dammed--so do I Doc.  I think the descriptions of what happens are accurate but amoung different deer there is a different phase of it going on through the whole breeding cycle. This past week I have seen bucks with no interest, crusing. chasing and breeding.

I dont think a lot of people understand that once a bucks antlers harden he's ready to breed. Doe's can and will come into estrous as early as October and as Late as January. Everything in between is the rut! That one doe will most likely get bred which is what led me into the experiment i ran here. While not one person who signed up for it was successful i do believe that its due to location and time spend in the woods vs doe's not being in heat or bucks not responding. If we ran this every year for five years i can almost guarantee some people would take bucks using it. For that reason alone i belive estrous urine can be used with success at anytime in the fall/winter that we in pa can dawn a weapon of any sort.

Ive read so many times that using that scent early season is wrong. Just what if youre in that area that the single doe is ready to go, ive seen it happen first hand, twice on 80 degree october days. I think some people that see it work know it works and until you see it you wont believe it. Do i think it could ruin a stand, absolutely, do i think a different stand across the county or state might work, 100%. Its about what you want from your hunting. I personally want a monster hanging on my wall. When i shot my last big six two years ago i vowed to myself i would never kill another buck i didnt want to grin at every time i looked at it.

I also agree that the breeding can happen early or late but do think that there is a peak period when the majority of the does come in season and that there is a chase phase prior to this happening ,  think some of the more mature does come in earlier (late Oct.) and this starts it and those 18 month old boys that are experiencing it for the first time remind me of a 16 year old with his first wheels (their cruising.)

Agree, the majority of the doe's will come into estrous during November, every year, regardless of moon or weather

Well, I'm sure the rut is taking place in the academic sense, but I'm not seeing much action in the valley behind my house.

Im not seeing a lot. I caught a doe getn ready to cross the road tonight and had a good look at her tarsals, not very dark.

On a side note that RealScent came today. I have never in my life smelled a doe in heat urine that smells like that. Although kinda stinky it actually smells like a deer vs something that makes you want to puke. I took out a half ounce and dumped it in a mock scrape.

I saw 5 different bucks friday evening and all day saturday.  I had a great 8 point chase a doe nearly right under my stand but, he would not stop running her no matter what I did.  I tried to grunt, bleet, whistle, and even yell to no avail.  Same story for every buck I saw, I could hear them coming on a trot followed by errrrp...errrrp.....errrrp.  They are running does hard right now and if they don't have a doe they are looking even harder for one.  A buddy of mine saw 10 different bucks on saturday alone down the road from me,  he said with the exception of 12-1 he had a deer in sight all day long.

Buddy of mine in northern Butler Co. shot a monster 10 pt. yesterday evening from his back porch.  21" spread, he's guessing it pushes 200 pounds.  Got some fuzzy cell phone pics sent to me.  Looks like it'll score about 120-125.

A small 6 was harrassing 2 does in his food plot and had attempted to mount one, when the big boy jumped in on the fun.  He ran downstairs, got his bow, opened the door and whacked him.  Hit it a little high and back, gave it 4 hours, and jumped him.  He went to work this morning, and his wife tracked it down.  She jumped it just inside the woods behind their house at about 11 AM and he staggered back out into their yard.  He finally died about 20 minutes later.

Anyway, said bucks up his way were chasing like crazy this week.  Yesterday evening was the first evening in a week he wasn't out in his tree stand.  How lucky is that?

As long as he has permission (his own house), he or anyone else he gives permission to can shoot out his door, off his roof, off his porch, whatever....  Sounds like it wasn't that great of a shot though.  At least it ended well.  Any good pics?

No safety zone violation there.  His in laws live next door and other family members next to the in laws, and are the only houses for a couple hundred yards.  They all give each other permission to shoot around the houses.  Heck, they hang tree stands in each others' back yards.  Might not be as exciting or sexy as sitting in a tree stand out in the woods, watching him come in, but no laws were violated in the killing of that deer.  He sure puts in his time on the stand though.  Good to see him have some good luck on a bruiser.

No good pics yet eyes.  Just a fuzzy one from a cell phone.  Don't think they have a digital camera, so it might be awhile till I see some good ones.

Told him he's lucky he didn't have to watch that deer coming though, or he'd have blown the shot altogether.

WOAH! Just talked to his wife.  It grossed 141"!!!!

I just got back from scouting 3 new areas, areas I should have been looking at during season. I guess hindsight is 20/20. Man on man its definately on. I wish we had one more week. I saw an explosion of huge rubs and natural scrapes. In fact the one area I snuck into and built a scrape two weeks ago. I was going to hunt it friday but decided not too. What a mistake. That scrape took off and I found at least four more good size scrapes. This area is thick and nasty with jaggers everywhere. Most guys would not make the walk nor walk through this crap. I have a feeling that I most likely will take a buck out of this stand during rifle or late archery. I have high hopes anyhow. The deer activity took such a giant leap im considering going out next weekend and taking my camera.
