Im using a 9 1/2 foot shimano for steel but have been shopping for an upgrade. Loomis makes some really nice rods but need a few more pennies. I want to go 10 1/2 for a better drift. Loomis also has a pretty good warranty and ships out replacements quickly if something happens to the rod.

I've had a Loomis GL2 for about 9 years now. Kind of pricey but no disapointments.A close second for me would be my Fenwick HMX.

i went with a bait caster and a corsairs reel rod is a cheap one i think whole outfit cost around 140 but i use my ganderguid noodle and a dia reel spooled with a 16lb braid i also use my walleye rod with the same lb test i catch as many on the cheap rod as the expensive rod when i take peeps fishing not many has there own rod so they use mine same goes for the lake ive got a lot of rigs around 2doz line counters/ spinning/ baitcasters/and noodles the whole thing is i cant use them all at once and they all have there own fishing nich like the 9ft rod its used for no 3.5 dips then the 8ft is used for 2.5 keeps things alittle spred out ill even use the noodle for steelie trooling at 11ft its like running out riggers prefernce prefrence nothing more but you also need good line and skill to land the fish

my setup is quite simple.my 101/2 ft south bend noodle and quantum optix reel have been very good to me the past couple of years.proving to be very durable.the whole settup cost around 120$.its not very good in tite places though,so i have a 9 1/2 firefox rod with a quantum snapshot reel.ive had this setup for a number of years and it proved to be durable as well.both settups have 4lb berkley flourocarbon line.it just goes to prove, even on tite budget like mine, you can set yourself up with decent equiptment at an affordable price and still enjoy a trip or 2 to the erie tribs...............enjoy the season.

i got the wife some undercast ,she almost stoped fishing i got her 2 of them and she likes the quantim snapshot better, it has a rear drag set im going to use mine later i have it on a 11 6" gander noodle with a quant reel and 8lb power pro, the steelies are not spooked by the line heck we had one jump out of the water after the spoon, and waited at the back of the boat for the spoon ya we got !!!
