Good day on theBrodhead

Today was a to part  outing; morning was focused on looking for pods of shad moving up through the Delaware water gap near the mouth of the Brodhead creek, afternoon was spent centerpin fishing the Brodhead gorge in search of large browns and stocked rainbows. Morning conditions where almost as perfect as you could possibly ask for.  Clear, debris less water flowing at a level conducive to wading with a slight breeze to hinder casting.  With the exception of being bright and sunny it was perfect fly fishing for shad condition.  We fished for the better part of the morning and managed on small buck shad.  With very few fish moving through so I decided we would switch gears and began targeting small mouth using black and olive woolybuggers.  Not long after the switch we where rewarded with a chunky 2lb rainbow, a handful of 14” smallmouth and briefly tangled with a 10ish lb striper. The sun was getting fairly high a quick break for lunch, some other errands and we made arrangements to meet back up for some late afternoon early evening action.  The remainder of the trip was fairly steady with 20 12-16” rainbows being caught with many more float drops alone the way.  A few trout took night crawlers and jigs however tonight pink 3” worms seemed to be the bait of choice.
