The Great Line Debate

Floating lines have come a long way, but what to use is still somewhat of a personal choice. First you have to choose the line weight you want then mono (co-polymer) hybrid, or braid. Now who favors what. I really like the siglon F, and have some of the raven. I think the siglon f is a little stronger and less kinky but I would fish either any day. Tried the p-line hydro float and no way I would recommend it. any one else?? Please remember this is my personal opinion.

used 8lb siglon f for the last year and liked it.  i read on floatfishing.net that their pink and orange colored lines are better suited for steelheading than the chartreuse for some reason, which is what i have now

I've used Trilene XL, Iron Silk, and pink, orange & chartreuse Siglon F.  I had problems with the XL and Iron Silk sinking, but liked the feel of the Iron Silk.  All 3 Siglon colors performed well, but I like the feel of the chartreuse.  It seems to be slicker (if that's a word?) than the other 2 colors.....more like the Iron Silk.

Fished ande tournament for years and loved it and decided to experiment a little.  Then the past 3 years ive used siglon and halfway through the last season started using cortland endurance.  I like it now.

I started with trilene, moved through a few that I forget, went to ande pink mono, and then to siglon orange/yellow.  The trilene worked fine, Ande was better (though a little stiff) and the siglon was the best.  I don't know which siglon it was, but I do know I used 12 lb.  It wasn't the best floater on its own, but I would spray the entire spool with silicon fly floatant (give it a good spin and spray it as it is turning) and that made the line float really high on the water.  One good spray would last a fair number of outings so long as you let it dry overnight before you used it.

I've been using Cortland Endurance for mono, and am going to try Masterbraid this year for more solid hooksets.

Thanks everyone for the input. I will be trying some of the new lines you have mentioned that I have not yet tried. It is interesting that Trout About thought that the Siglon F in chartreuse seemed slicker. I have not yet tried the other colors out there but am ordering bulk spools of the Raven main line and Siglon F in a couple of diferent colors. The hope will be that when we have several people in the boat we can distinguish each-others lines and not just the floats.

Ok so I checked into this. The coatings and mixtures are different depending on the colors. Siglon F says it is the only one to add color to the mixture during the cooking process and said that their colors ie. Fluorescent pink, orange, green and blue will be the same. Raven tackle co said they haven't noticed any difference in the lines on their end and assure me that it had to do with the weather. From my own testing pink and green the seem the same too. Now another co, I won't mention names failed all IGFA testing per line class. So they would not comment on the performance of their floating multi-polymer line. P-line said that Hydrofloat is a superior product and that was that.
