Okuma-Sheffield Sirata

Stopped at a tackle shop and looked at one, walked out with two.Knew once my son got ahold of it ,it would be gone and as usual dad would not get to play with his new toy.Seems like a quality reel and can't wait to hook a big king on it next week,to see how the drag works and if it was worth the extra money.Went with the intent to get another sheffield,as usual gotta spend, spend.Anyone play with one yet?

I looked at one but see no reason to buy one. Why would you need a drag but thats just my 2 cents. If your a good pinner it's all about plaming the reel to me, plus have yet had a fish spool me or even come close to the backing. So again see no reason for a reel with a drag. For that type of money think i would have bought a nice raven or islander or couple $ more bought a king pin. But everyone has their own opionions. Hope it fishes well for you keep us updated. Good luck

The only reason I would want that reel is if you could hear it scream, thats the one thing I miss about pining ,my fly reels sing a pretty song when those fresh steelies go for a run.I've heard that the drag on that reel is pretty much silent, is that true?

Nah has a slite click too it. But when i fish with my pin i never have the clicker on. Only time you here it click is when i am heading to the truck to call it a day. If you hold a pin correctly you should never have to put the clicker on.  Just my two cents.

ditto.... i been a victim of forgetting to set the clicker before walking...nothing like tracking 100-120 yds of your line through the snow

I agree that you don't really need or want a drag on a centerpin for erie tribs, however, it would be handy for fishing for Kings. Those bad boys are hard on the fingers.

I don't see a need for a drag. Besides watching your float vanish at 50+ yards, the best thing about pin fishing is doing your best to control a fish with the palm of your hand. I am by no means one of the best pin fishermen out there, but I landed plenty of kings last year on the pin using only the palm of my hand. Sure, you are going to lose one now and again, but isn't that the fun it.

I don't think you need a drag either, but think that there are times that it would be handy. Just because this thing has a drag don't mean you have to always use it. It can also be used as a conventional centerpin reel. This guy is excited about his new reels and everyone puts it down. Not me man GOOD purchase dude, and I hope to see you on the creek so you can show me how it works, maybe you can even let me give it a try.

Took it to the Salmon River for a 4 day trip, along with my other pin reel, learned alot. The drag worked great for a fish that would not run, when they wanted to run to the lake or up stream,no hope.with 8lb. main line there was no stopping them.the drag worked great on the steel and the couple of brown's that were landed.Played fish with and without the drag on,after battleing and loosing to a few fish,i like the drag.I only managed to land one king,it was  24-25 on the bogagrip.I am completely satisfied with the reel.did learn that 6lb. Seagar carbon pro is stronger than 8lb.siglon,everytime I broke off a fish, the siglon broke and off went the float along with everything else watched a few floats travel up river.Hooked alot of fish and that is what i wanted to do,fight a king on the pin.For fighting the salmon the pin is a blast, hooking the browns and steel were the highlight.Anyone heading up be ready for some monster kings, they are larger than the last few years i have been going up there.Only test left is the cold, figure iceing will be the same as with anyother reel, time will tell. For a first time buyer that loves to fish and is looking to getting into centerpinning,I have nothing bad to say about it.
