Salmon

Okay guys, I know that you dislike it when others post things other than fishing with Lake Erie, but what i was wondering is what is the best spot to go catch some salmon outta the tribs of ontario, but is closest to Erie. A few of my friends and i want to venture north and see how we fare. We want to come back to college with some Kings to grill. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Closest to Erie; you basically have 2 choices.  There are lots of Kings to be caught in the lower Niagara, but it is hard to shore fish and lots of folks will be there.  There is also a good King run at 18 mile creek in Olcott, NY which is a little easier to fish, but also has a fair bit of stream traffic.  Both are between an 1 1/2 to 2 hr. drive from Erie.

We made the trek up to Olcott our first time..What a zoo..Had a riot don't get me wrong. Caught alot of fish..

The hotel we stayed in was full of fishermen. On the day we left we looked in the room next door and they had the bath tub full of leaking salmon and ice....What a mess...

The Oak and other smaller streams that dump into Ontario. Do some exploring, you'd be suprised at the size(how small) of a stream that a king will go up into.

Right now your best bet is Salmon River but its a hell of a haul from Erie. I'm sure there might be a few stray fish in Oak Orchard, 18 Mile Creek (Olcott), Niagara, Gennesse (Rochester) ect but you best shot is Salmon River. I'm sure theres a few in Oswego as I spotted 2-3 over Labor Day weekend but the waters much warmer and still really low.
