Presque Isle Bay - Water level

How is the water level in Presque Isle Bay?

I know in the past 5 years or so, it's been really low.  I've heard that the lower level in recent years is normal.

We had a lot more success up there in waders when the level was up.  I hope it is higher this year.

NOAA and the US Army Corps of Engineers run  sites with current water levels and forecasts of water levels at

    http://www.great-lakes.net/envt/water/levels/levels_current.html
    http://www.lre.usace.army.mil/greatlakes/hh/greatlakeswaterlevels/

They also have web services you can subscribe to which send montly reports.

I grew up in Erie and can remember back in the 80s when the water was high. I know it seems very low to me and the numbers show that.

Interesting that you guys see it low (which I know it has been)  according to the experts, Michingan and Huron are down 2 feet because of dredging in the St. Clair river.  Which, should put more water in Erie.

    "
While Great Lakes levels can naturally fluctuate by as much as a three feet from decade to decade, the relative difference in levels between Great Lakes should remain constant. If, for example, Lakes Michigan and Huron go down 12 inches, so should levels in Lake Erie. That hasn’t been happening. And the study shows that the difference in the levels between Lakes Michigan and Huron and Erie appears to be shrinking on an annual basis."

    This one blames weather patterns.

Looks normal to me.  There isn't water filling the parking lots, and you can't quite walk across the bay yet.

I was up there today.  It's normal for recent years, maybe up a little.  About 6-8 years ago, it started to decline.

It's been a while since the water level was up because you can see all the growth where it used to be under water.

Thompson Bay was one of the best fishing areas when the water was higher.  Deep channel and all the feed in that bay would attract crazy amounts of fish.  Not as good anymore.
