Boat/Garage Height ??

Adding additional space to garage so that I can park the boat inside.  I currently have a 20' wellcraft which doesn't pose any height problems.  But as we all know, it won't be long before I "need" something bigger.  I anticipate eventually having something 24 ft. ish with a hard top.  What's a good height to plan for from floor to top?  Thanks.

I have a 22 ft Grady White walkaround that sits on a tandem axle 5,800 capacity trailer. The boat does not have a hard top (I wish it did, but when you get a great deal on a model year leftover you have to go with what it's got). Anyway, on the trailer, the tallest point of the boat is the center of the windshield and that is 8 ft 10 inches off the ground. So given that, perhaps add another 1.5 to 2 ft to account for the height of the hardtop roof.

I am getting ready to build a garage myself, I made the door for the boat 10x10 with the celing being 12' 6''. If i ever get the boat that I want it should fit if not I have 2' to play with height wise and plenty more for width.  Just remeber that you need at least 6" for a low head door to work and it doesn't matter how big you build it it is never big enough.

absolutely true. build the biggest garage you can afford, then go into debt and build it bigger. it is unreal how small it soon becomes.

Our warehouse down here has a 10ft door on it and the boat JUST slips in with no rocket launcher.  THe hardtop barely has 6ft headroom too

Personally if you want a 24 or so with a hardtop your going to need at least a 10-12ft door...

My Trophy has a factory enclosed hard top on it and it stands 11' to the top when trailered.  We had to build a big garage for it last summer 12 foot swing doors!  Yikes!!

Thanks all.  Amen to the garage never being big enough, hence the adding on.  Looked it over pretty good tonight.  We'll make sure top of door can handle 11' and we should be OK.  It'd be nice if someone made a semi take-down hardtop.  Pretty tough with solid windows I know but if there was the ability to pivot the hard top forward to lay down over the bow it would be pretty handy.  Might be nice for trailering too.  Any inventors out there?  Hell, maybe someone already does and I just haven't seen it.  Thanks again and any more advice appreciated.
