No More Orange

Woo HOOO!!! The Game Comm. finally came around.
No more orange for Spring Gobbler.
Was a stupid law that did not make hunting any safer actually by the statistics it made it more dangerous.
Surprised it took them this many years to believe the stats.

    What???

I dont care how many people say you dont have to wear orange. My blind has an orange top, it isnt going anywhere, id rather not kill a turkey then get shot.

How does no orange make it more dangerous then requiring orange, id love to know? You only had to wear it while moving.

They said " Theres no evidence that its beneficial", they never said its a bad idea.

I'am with you Bings. Now you'll have to make sure what your shooting at is a turkey. No more excuses like-it moved, it didn't look like a pumpkin, so I shot.

It only makes it more dangerous for the Idiots who wander around shaking a gobble tube like they are trying to satisfy themselves.  And then only when they are hunting near other idiots that wake up and hear a gobble and see movement.

There is absolutely no excuse for mistaking a human being for a "Bearded Turkey". None! Wether I am orange ,blue ,green, turkey feather brown I just don't look like any bird I've ever seen.
And I have been shot at 75 yds. I came unglued on that piece of crappolla.
Had our decoys hammered right in front of us. Those fellas shouldn't even be allowed to hunt.
Get stalked every year by the amish men who think they can sneak up on a turkey.
Wearing orange according to the law would not have helped in any of these situations.I didn't need it on I was at my calling location. I say hammer the hell out of the ones that do it so the rest will make sure of what they are shooting at..

I find it hard to believe that hunting was more dangerous with orange than without it.

Because more shootings occured during the years that orange was required than in the years that it was not.....He said "statistically"

There was also something in one of the studies that said. Because PA has always been an orange wearing state that it has conditioned the hunters sub consciously, That if it is not orange it is not a hunter and when they make that snap decision to shoot, No orange-no hunter..
Spring Gobbler is a little different than fall. In spring you have to at least see a beard before pulling the trigger. If you can see a beard to shoot then there is no possible way you can shoot a human being.

That sounds like it can be attributed as much to coincidence as to orange.

You are probably right.  Personally I think a lot of it has to do with the major shift in turkey hunting areas during the orange requirements.  When I was 12 up until I was about 21 you didn't even think of turkey hunting here in lawrence county.  There weren't enough/(any) birds, so you went to the mountains.  I am 34 now and there are tons of turkeys here, but in our habitat the hunters are more concentrated because of the type of habitat compared to the mountains.  So you have more hunters close together with orange accidents (should never) but happen more frequently than they did when turkey hunting occured in the big woods with the hunters more spread out.

I don't even know if I am going out this year. Last year I came across a "hunter" stoned out of his mind AT 7 A.M.!!!!!!!!   Scared the !@#!@!@ out of me! Worst of all he came across the posted side of the mountain!  Not sure its worth it anymore now that I have a family.
