Ya same with me, weather will tell if I go there or not. Last time I went there on the opening day we were able to bring shiners out of Erie but that was a couple of years. I don't know if the local bait shops will have a good supply of emeralds or goldens, I hope so. I see they have a new fishing platform down by the hatchery, it looks good.

so far there is rain in the forecast but that will likely change in a couple days.
doesn't matter, a little rain hasn't stopped us before. As long as the creeks don't flood.
I don't know if we'll end up fishing close to the dam, or spillway... right now the plan is to hit the smaller streams in that area.
We are looking forward to it tho. We used to have a family camp up near Sheffield and we haven't been up that way in years.

My plan is to start the day at the out flow and by lunch start working my way back to the Spring Creek/Corry area. I live in North East and all the Lake Erie tribs are so packed I don't see how anyone can have a good time elbow to elbow. I can't think of the creek but it runs though pittfield, its a Brook Trout stream. I would like to hit that on my way twords Corry.

The river is unfishable as of this a.m. I usgs site is down but it looked something like 12-15000 cfs when I drove by this morning.  If the usual rain keeps up it probably won't be fishable by opening day.

Guys, here's a great link to what's happening in the Kinzua tailwaters and the rez itself.

The creek I was talking about flows into the brokenstraw. I think it runs with rt27 by pittsfield somewhere. It very small from what I remember. Of course I was 11 then and 36 now. It all seems like a blurr.

Go west a couple miles outside of Pittsfield on 27. It's called Blue Eye. It runs through the state gamelands, stocked  but some natives for the hiker.

I made one trip to the kinzua tailraces several years ago on the 4th of july and there were a couple people slamming big trout one after another off the bank.  Is that normal?  I even got a few on a spinner but I really wasn't prepared to fish.  There was also a guy sitting out on his boat reeling them in on every cast, I'm not sure what he was catching though.  I can also recall a several fisherman just a stone's throw downstream who were just throwing out and letting their rods sit, that seemed a little strange that they weren't interested in all the other action.  It gave me the impression that those trout were real common and maybe they were fishing for walleyes or something.
