looking for a fishing cabin getaway
Anyone know of a nice cabin to rent for a weekend within about 3 hours drive of Pgh? I am looking for something that my wife would approve of also. But a wooded area with a trout stream close by is a must! Affordable is good too! Let me know please, Thanks.

You might try this number 570 923 1601. It is in Sinnemahoning, right on the river. Nice place.

Try the state parks through DCNR web site, I think they run the cabin rentals at state parks.

...And there probably isn't a more beautiful setting in PA in that area. These are real mountains, not like those little bumps in Tionesta. Plus there are elk everywhere. Take a drive up the dirt road along Hicks Run, find a feeder stream coming down from a valley and take a hike up it. Just bring some #14 hooks, about 20 yds of 2 lb test, and a small container of redworms, crawl up along the bank and flick the hook into the stream and you'll be catching some of the prettiest native brookies you'll ever see.

Hicks run is about 10 or 15 mins east of there on 555. Its a small stream that gets stocked. Follow 555 to driftwood to fish the Sinnemahoning. 120 parallels it. Youre going to be in some beautiful country make sure and take a drive up ridge road, also go up mason hill road out of Driftwwood to see the overlook. Stop in and see the people at the corner store in Medix run they are very friendly, will have more suggestions on places to go and your wife will enjoy shopping for the souveniers there

Check out my post in the F/S section. We do several trips per year to different locations. Most are more than 3 hours, but you will never be disappointed. Shoot me an email.

Cook Forest, Plenty of cabins from primative to ones with hot tubs on the deck !! Plenty of trout streams nearby. Lots of streams with natives too ! Can catch fish year round up there. The Allegeheny National Forest is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. Hiking, canoeing, fishing it doesn't get much better than that !!!
