When will you call it quits for the steelhead season?

Looks like the steelhead season is comming to a close ladies and gentlemen.  I have a feeling that many people are calling it quits till next season and are looking forward to fish for different species. As for myself, I plan on fishing for these boys untill I can no longer find them in the streams.  Howabout everyone else? Are you done for the season or do you plan to make several more trips.  You never know, you may come up during a nice 60 degree sunny day and walk across a magical hole that is stacked with fish. I know that this is beyond wishfull thinking but how great would it be to catch them in a tee-shirt. I look forward to hearing how long you plan to "chase" these awsome fish

I usually give it up in late April or May.  It depends on the year and if I have something better to do...

It all depends on the weather for me.  I've already started gearing up for the smallies and the walleye in the western basin.  Therefore, when the weather breaks pretty good, I'll be fishing from the boat.  I am however, going to try to get up there one more time before too long here for the last time of this season.  Tight Lines all!

If they are there are there I will fish. Even when the steel are gone browns will be found. The weather may keep the creeks colder longer so mabey it will go longer in the season.

A day fishing erie tribs is a good day anytime until hot summer, imo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but although you can still catch steelies in the streams up to late april/early may, I think we have to take a 32 hour break from midnight Thursday, April 10th till the opening bell of trout season at 8:00am Saturday, April 12th.  This gives the fish commission time to put in the regular trout throughout the rest of the stream, unobstructed by steelhead fishermen.  That means that No Fishing in any trout approved water on Friday. April 11th.

I fish Ohio in the spring for steelies.  The spring "run" is just getting started where I usually fish.  I'm guessing we have about another six weeks of good steelheading left.  Yee Haw!....that is if it don't keep raining/snowing.

changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes....nothing remains quite the same

Pretty sure all Erie tribs are closed for that time period, even the creeks that are not approved trout waters.

i fish for them while i fish opening day, if i see a few steelhead ill cast to them for awhile, some of the guys that dont fish for steelhead think its amazing when you hook into  a steelhead, it makes me wonder if theyve ever been to the tribs during the peak of the run and seen the numbers...ive seen guys  hook into a 20" steelhead and start yelling "trophy fish!"

I may be calling it quits any day now. Worst spring in 5 years on the east
side. East side sucks. 2003/2004 season I caught my biggest of the year
on Memorial Day. Doesn't seem to be any spring run on the east side like in years' past.

    FiveMilePete,

This has been a tough season for me on the westside as well.  I have caught a few fish, but nothing like the previous years, but as long as I can get out, I will still go.  The sucker fishing will start picking up soon....  Already put one of them on the bank so far.
