Niagara salmon

How good is the salmon fishing in the niagara river in the fall from shore? Wanted to try it this fall! Any tips?
Is the pressure like steelies at walnut in november or is it a little more spread out? And how do they table fare?

You are limited to access to the river from shore because of the terrain.  You can get to Devil's Hole, but I hear its an unbelievable walk up and down hills, so if you plan on going there, pack light.  The Art Park is another place closer to Lewiston but space is limited.  I've never done this from shore but I here its tough, however, do-able.  No doubt a rush when you hook into one from anywhere.  Tight Lines.

porter, here is a good reports page....scroll down to "Lower Niagara"  When time gets closer and you will find out when they are runnin' hard.

I have a friend who has done it and he had a blast, but it is tough....I'd say Mid Sept through Oct. & Nov. should be good....You have to watch the weather very closely and the river conditions.  I typically use the Bill Hilts report link to get up to date info.  Good Luck.

My buddy got them on egg sacks, but I'd be willing to bet they'd hit the jigs too.

I did this a few years back and it is a blast. BIG water, be careful, the walk down is long but not that hard. Some guys have backpack frames with like a bungie cord hook on the top of frame, they will hang the fish on them and carry out that way. Have fun, Glenn.

I used to go to the upper Niagara on the Canadian side as a kid in Fort Erie just a mile or two down from the Peace bridge.  We'd get some nice rainbows and an occaisional golden trout.  I don't know if they still stock those.  You could fish it well in chest waders.
