Great stuff Dealinsteel.
If I got into that, I'm not sure I'd ever use what I made. Homemade plugs seem pretty big in the saltwater striper community. Some great stuff, but if something takes me a good 5 hours of labor, I'd rather not throw it in the water...
I could definitely see how it would be addictive. I've made spinners, flies, and jigs. I really enjoy catching things with lures that I have made. That is definitely my favorite thing about fly fishing.

I've been making them for years...I quit for awhile, but am really considering starting back up this spring simply because of the the outrageous prices of muskie lures anymore. I'm primarily a Wiley guy, but have Leos and others as well....However....I used to work for Wiley Lures and had the luxury of getting prototype lures for free. Now days, the Wileys are around $20 to $25 a lure in stores, even though I get a "special" price  ...Thats plain crazy for any lure! I've accumulated a ton of lures over the years, but they're starting to take a beating! I need to start making some more. deelinsteel: Those are nice baits...the colors look nice. How do they troll? 5 to 7 mph.?

I've always wanted to pick up some Wileys but didnt want to drop the cash. I am a bucktail guy any how.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I guys I could have said a little more earlier, but these are 4" long and about 1.5 oz. I haven't even tried to troll these guys yet as I primarily make them for casting the rivers in the winter. I do make a bigger 7" version that I have trolled up to 5.5 mph. They both have square lips which gives them a pretty wide wobble. I just made a trolling bait the other day, my first one...to replicate the T.S.

That one looks alot like a Tuff Shad. I have a few of those and they run pretty nice. Do you sell your baits or just make them for your own use?

i like to make baits. rather make baits an fish than almost anything.nothing like getting fish on your home made bait.wood an teeth is in.your lures are looking good.ever try to make a globe,or a walk the dog typ.

I'm actually working on a prop bait right now dozer, similar to a topraider with the detached tail and blade. I have a few blanks for the walk the dog style baits that I haven't gotten around to yet. I just started to make them to the point where I'm gonna take some limited orders from friends, but if you're interested in something pm me and we can discuss it. Thanks for checkin them out guys!!

Katty you may want to check out muskiefirst, they have a basement bait page where I learned alot from sifting through posts. The other place to try is tackleunderground.com, they have alot of information on making baits, not necessarilt all muskie baits but some good ideas. Hope this helps and you can always ask me for ideas if you get stuck!! It's addictive, be careful.
