Thursday steely fishing on elk?

im trying to get up there this week.im wondering if elk is still going to be high or if this cold weather could give us problems with slush and ice.my dad only makes the trip with me a couple times a year,so im trying to make sure he has a good chance at success. thanks in advance.

Slush, if it is going to be a problem, is usually more of an issue in the mornings.  As for large amounts of ice, I don't think you will find heavy ice on the creeks given the blown out conditions Monday, but there most likely be some ice around the edges and perhaps some on the larger, slower holes.

If we don't get much more precip and the temperatures say cold, the streams should be in pretty good shape, but this time of year things can change quickly so watch the weather reports.

YOU ARE NOT KIDDING  I was walking back to the truck  around 12noon and it was melting like carzy   i  was binged  in the head by a  falling peice of ice ... It felt like a baseball hit me..  and way here is the  report I posted   on the reports page

Started out at upper elk The water was up but good color . fished there form 7:30 till 12:30 it was me Boris and Doble… as soon as we got to the creek the first hour was non stop fish .I landed 8 Boris landed 8-9 and Doble around 8-9. we moved down stream stopping and hitting 3to 4 fish each hole we each ended up catching good numbers in the high teens each .. Than we hit another part of elk and did about the same we did stop by lower elk to check it out conditions it was high and muddy completely un fishable .. I ended the day with about 28 fish caught, 10 or so that broke me off… All fish were pretty decent sizes the biggest one was about 9 pounds average 4-5 pounds most were dark fish but surprisingly there were a few chrome’s… the temperature was nice all day, by 4pm the creeks started rising on upper elk and the with in 30 minutes the creek went from dark green to chocolate and raging So buy 5 it was unfishable when we left the water was still rising. Olive and white zonkers and Oregon chesse blood dots seemed to be the hot colors of the day . I don’t think tomorrow will be to good to fish also with a front moving through all in all agreat day
