Orvis T3

Just recieved my new Orvis T3 I got such a great buy on ???? and as I excitedly pieced it together I thought the ferrules did not seat correctly now as I look at it. It seems the ferrules do not seat deeply enough, there just seemes to be too much unfinished male side of the ferrule showiing it doesn't seem to be sinking deep enough into the female end. Any body with a T3 out there have the same impression?

I have a newer clearwater and that is how the ferrules are on it.  I have also seen that they are like that on the TLS power matrix rods.  My friend just got a T3, but I never looked closely enough to notice the ferrules on it.  Im pretty sure that is just the way Orvis rods are made.

There is a gap there so that when the rod flexes it doesn't pressure the scrim (outer coating). DO NOT force the ferrule together too close or you will damage the blank. Tight lines and happy fishing!

I bet it is a sweat rod.  E-mail Orvis with you question and I am sure the customer service rep. will get back to you ASAP.  I had a question on my Ross Reel and they mailed me within a day.  Or call 1-800-782-4222 (International angler-Orvis shop)  They will be more than happy to answer your question.

Thanks for all the input. I got the official reasoning from Orvis. Proper flex, keep ferrule from bottoming out, etc. Very poor appearence. Better engineering and design would go along way. Guess Orvis is indeed going mainstream sold in Walmart kind of product. I guess its been coming for several years. All hail Sage.

Don't confuse engineering with appearance.  The reason the ferrules are like that is because of new technology and engineering.  It is supposed to help the rod transfer energy more efficiently.  While it may not be as aesthetically pleasing to some, im certain they are like that for performance.
