Haven't posted on this site for many years and rarely even look at it. I too am interested in information about the movement of fish in the streams. It's been about 10 years since I fished for steel and was hoping to get up sometime this year and drown some bait. When it starts to happen, any information would be helpful. I don't need large numbers, if they are there, I'll find them.

80 degrees and sunny is perfect conditions to drag a steel or two around on a stringer for a few hours. Nature’s tenderize!

Well Pork it's OK if some folks want to keep a few but I usually don't unless I hurt one. Just like to feel and/or see the strike occur and that sudden rush of power. It's amazing how fast those fish can turn, chase down your bait and eat it.

I just checked out that Trout Run livestream and fish are definately there! Bunch of guys fishing.....some catching......and if you look real close when the camera pans that way, you can see the fish swimming around in the shallow water at the mouth of the creek. Can't wait to go!.....but it'll be a few weeks from now till I make the 4 1/2 hr trip to Erie. I had a great time up there last year and caught more fish than I ever have......big ones too!

I ate the last steelhead that I caught. It went on ice about 5 minutes after catching and bleeding it and came out great. I’ve had fish treated like noted and they tasted like garbage. With the current conditions, if planning to keep any fish, better plan accordingly. Or good chance that it ends up in a garbage can. People can legally do what they want with fish they catch, but I think most of us would rather they not be wasted.

Gentlemen,
Well, I can say that for the 1st time in years, I'm planning a trip up, with my son and grandson.  I'll probably be sitting on "the Wall", in my wheelchair, or on a bank somewhere watching the 3d generation learn how to fish for steel.  All I need to know is:  How many fish are in the project hole, are they up to Rt 5 yet, and what are they hitting on?  Thought I'd take this thread back 10-15 years.  LOL

Indsguiz. Fish in the basin where the boat launch is. Take you fly rod and strip white streamers or put it on a float and roll cast it.

Hmmmm, I was thinking more like a Dr, pepper bottle with a handful of gravel and an M-80. But your way might work too.

Returnee to this Board, and I find it sad how it has gone downhill, like it seems the fishery has. Pressure. Posting. Borish behavior.

When I was a student at PSU-Erie (aka Behrend) in the mid 80's, had some hellah good days on Walnut in the Manchester area, but not the hole. Wasn't much posted at the time, and put in the time.

Now you need a master's degree in mapping or friends w property to get away from the crowds. Mid 50's with a grumpy but still working knee, so hope to get up and put in some time in late October. Will keep checking back in hopes that there is actual constructive info shared.

They should be catching up there now, after all that high water. I see a few guys fishing on the webcam behind Uncle Johns.....don't know if they're catching? Water is still a little high and looks very muddy. I'm planning on Halloween week for my trip, if weather cooperates. Can't wait!

Hasn’t been great since the water came back dahhn. A few hookups for each of us yesterday but nuttin major. My buddies on elk today and no luck. It’s back to low and clear.

    Jester-welcome back!
You won’t find much info on here because social media has replaced online discussion boards. But there’s tons of info around. I don’t got a masters degree in topography but I read a map juss fine. Still plenty of places to fish. The crowds are there but you can find space if ya walk a bit.

I for one am just happy to read some current posts and am glad that there are a few live threads. Nice to see a few folks still share information. My first experience with steelhead was about 30 years ago while fishing out of walnut in a fifteen foot aluminum boat with a 9.9 tiller by myself. Caught more fish that day than I care to expound on. I was hooked on steel. Over the next few years I gradually switched to stream fishing and the rest is history. I live almost three hours from Erie but for awhile I managed to spend about twenty days a year chasing those critters, also went to New York and caught a few dozen of those pigs at Olcott and surrounding waters. Really brings back some fond memories especially when I look over some of the pictures that were taken when I ventured up there with my family and made it a family outing. Met a lot of nice people also. One in particular was a young man who was tailgating cooking walleye fillets and invited myself and the man I was with to join him. That's the kind of people you meet when you fish. He's a guide there now.

Haven't been back to the streams for close to 8-9 years due to health issues but I'm considering making a trip in about two weeks if for no other reason than to just look around and maybe, just maybe, get to drown some bait. Probably drive up with my wife and stay a couple of days and make it an outing for her also.

For just a second I saw a glimpse of what these boards once were but it faded quickly. Sadly, all good things must end.  But there was a time when this place was lit up this time of year.    Good luck to all who take to the tribs this season.   Be safe.
